INVENTOR AWREW 55mm/AM. PHmO-UTHQWASHINGTDKUL.
UNrTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES FRYE, OF PPHLADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
CONDlMENT-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part ofA Letters Patent No. 553,580, dated January 28, 1896. Application filed April 25, 1895. Serial No. 547,092. (No model.)
To LU whom it may con/agrio:
Be it known that I, JAMES FRYE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia-and State of Pennsylvania, have invented. certain new and useful Improvements in Condiment-Holders; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in oOndiment-holders, the same being adapted to receive several distinct articles used for table purposes, and consists of a sheet-metal box or casing having a perforated cover secured thereto and folding blades interposing between said casing and said cover.
Referring to the accompanying drawings,
Figure l is a perspective view of myinvention4 or improved device. Fig. 2 is a planrview. Fig. 3 is a section on aline x of Fig. 9. Fig. 4. is a detached perspective view Of the blades. Fig. 5 is a section on the line g/y of Fig. 3.
A designates the box or casing having partitions a. A cover B is secured to the box or casing in any desirable manner, said cover having the upper portion filled with a series of perforations. Between said cover and said casing are mounted a series of thin metal blades C pivoted at c to the casingA. These blades have projecting pins C2 which are adapted to slots b in the cover.v A spring s is secured to the pins C2 and to the cap B, so that as the blades are moved forward the said springs act tO return said blades to their normal position. The blades C are folded one upon the other, and the material contained in the box or casing can be readily removed by pressing either of the pins in the direction of the arrows against the action of the spring S. Thus either of the partitions may be brought into engagement withth perforated cover and the contents removed by shaking the box in the Ordinary manner. Compartments of the box or casing may be refilled by removing the bottom D, which is secured to the box Or casing by a screw-thread d.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination in a condiment holder of a casing, A, partitions, a, a perforated cover, B, secured to the top of said casing, segmental plates pivoted in the center to 4said cover and adapted to fold one upon the other to open and close the perforations in said cover, pins projecting from said segmental plates to operate the same in one direction, slots in the top of said cover for the reception of said pins, springs for returning said segmental plates and adapted to close the perforations in said cover and a removable bottom, D, adapted to a threaded portion on the bottom of the casing, A, all substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JAMES FRYE. Witnesses:
