SALT-SHAKER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 23, 1915.
Application filed November 27, 1914. Serial No. 874,103.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Rosoon 0. LONG, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Buffalo, in the county of Erie, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Salt-Shakers, of which the following is a full and complete specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 shows a bottom view of the cap of the shaker, and Fig. 2 shows a side View, partly in section, of a shaker embodying my improvements.
My invention relates to tops or caps for shakers to contain a substance such as salt or other powder.
my invention I aim to provide means adapted to keep the perforations in the cap from becoming clogged by the normal use of the shaker, and which is adapted to be used manually to clean the top or cap of the shaker in the event of unusual clogging. I
Referring to the accompanying drawings, in which a preferred embodiment of my invention is shown, the numeral 1 designates the receptacle or holder for the salt or other substance.
2- is a cap adapted to be screwed on the holder 1. 111 the cap 2 are perforations 3, which are positioned in two concentric circles about the center hole 3. Passing through the center hole 3 is a rod 4, having on its upper end a knob 5. Attached to the lower end of the rod 4, by the arms 6, is the triangular frame 7. If desired, a plate of proper shape may be substituted for the triangular frame 7 and the arms 6. Extending upwardly from the triangular frame 7 are the projections 8, which are adapted to register with the holes 3. It is to be noted,
very much-clogged with salt, the cap may be cleaned by rotating the frame 7 through the medium of the rod 4, and the knob 5, and all of the holes 3 may be cleaned by drawing the frame 7 and projection 8 upwardly, so that they register first with one set of holes 3, and then with another set of holes 3.
It is obvious that various modifications may be made in the form of my device, without departing from the spirit of my invention, since What I claim is:
In a salt shaker the combination of a receptacle, a cap therefor, perforations in the said cap, a rod projecting through one of the said perforations free to rotate in the said perforation and to move through the said cap, means for limiting the movement of the said rod at the outer end thereof, a frame on the other end of the said rod, and projections extending from the said frame toward the said cap, the said projections being less in number than the said perforations so that when the shaker is inverted all of said per forations will never be closed simultaneously, but so positioned on the said frame that by moving the rod all of the perforations may in turn be cleaned by the said projections.
