JOHN BOLGIANO, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
FAO E-PROTECTO R.
SPECIFICATION forming part 0f Letters Patent N0. 494,775, dated April 4, 1893.
Application filed January ll, 1893. Serial No. 458,006. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom t may concern.-
Beit known that I, JOHN BOLGIANO, a citizen of the United States,.residing at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Travelers Face-Protectors, of which the following is a specification.
Myinvention relates to veils adapted to be worn over the face and comprises special features which render it particularly desirable for use by those traveling on rail-roads, to exclude dust, cinders, die., and to these ends it consists of certain details of construction which I shall presently point out.
In the drawingsz-Figure Lis a view showing my device in position upon the face of the wearer. Fig. 2, is a side-elevation, showing means for attaching the veil to the face, and the elastic cord or band whereby the veil accommodates itself to the face of the wearer. Fig. 3, is a front elevation, and Fig. 4, is a View showing in elevation a modiiication of my device.
Like letters of reference in the several Iigures indicate the same parts.
Referring to the drawings, the letter A represents the veil-fabric; B, aspring wire of U shape attached to the edge'of the veil-fabric, for securing the same in position upon the face of the wearer; C, the other edge-of the veilfabric, through which the elastic band or cord D,7 is passed. The ends of the elastic cord are secured to the spring wire at its ends which are bent to form the ear-hooks e.
In placing my device in position, the spring wire l is placed under the chin, and backl of the ears ot the wearer; the hooks are passed over the ears, and the elastic cord 1), is adj usted upon the fore-head, thus securely fixing the veil in position.
Fig. et, shows a modification of my device, wherein the letter F, represents the veilfabric, and G, GQ the wire hooks, forsecuring the veil to the face of the wearer. H,
H, are elastic connections between the earhoohs G, and the veil fabric F, for permitting the adjustment of the veil to the face of the wearer. These elastic connections are secured at one end to the veil-fabric and at the other to the eyes 11, in the ear-hook G.
The modified device is designed to protect the eyes of the wearer, While allowing him a free use of his nose and mouth. Its position upon the face of the wearer may be seen in Fig. l, wherein the line (Land the dotted line L, represent respectively the upper and lower edges of the veil-fabric.r
My veil is easily attached, and maybe lworn without inconvenience to the wearer. It is cheap to make and is eiiicient in performing the functions for which it was designed.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. As an article of manufacture,a face-veil comprising a veil-fabric; an elastic band at the upper edge thereof, and a substantially U shaped spring wire secured to the lower edge thereof, as described.
2. As an article of manufacture,a fac-eveil comprising a veil-fabric; a U-shaped wire secured to said fabric at the lower edge thereof; hooks for embracing the ears of the wearer, and an elastic cord or band secured to the upper edge of the veil-fabric, as described.
3. As an article of manufacture,a face-Veil comprising a veil fabric; hooks attached thereto for securing the same to the face of Vthe wearer; and an elastic cord or band secured to the edge of the Veil-fabric, between the hooks, as described.
In testimony whereof I affix mysignat u re in the presence of twol witnesses.
' JOHN BoLGIANo.
