SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 583,590, dated June 1, 1897.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that LFRANK S.BENNETT,a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and Stateof Pennsylvania, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Eye-Protectors, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to a new and useful improvement in eye-protectors, and has for its object to provide a simple, cheap, and efficient device by means of which dust, rain, and, snow may be prevented from coming in contact with a persons eyes and yet leaving the eyes of such aperson free to observe as though no protector were used.

With these ends in view my invention consists in the details of construction and combination of elements hereinafter set forth, and then specifically designated by the claim.

In order that those skilled in the art to which this invention appertains may understand how to make and use the same, its construction and operation will now be described in detail, referring to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in whichv Figure 1 represents the application of my improvement, and Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the same.

In carrying out my invention I mold or shape transparent celluloid into certain contours best adapted for fitting the form of the face adjacent the eyes of a person, andthat part of the device which comes immediately in front of the eyes is concaved and convexed, as indicated at A, the convexity lying outward. The center portion of the device is preferably made to fit the nose, as indicated at B, in .which case this point will serve to center the device upon the face and prevent it from slipping sidewise. O are holes, which may be eyelets in projections at the ends of the protector, and are for the purpose of attaching a cord or elastic D to secure the device upon.

From this it will be seen that when a device is attached over the eyes of a person no 011- as may be readily molded or otherwise shaped.

and it may therefore be utilized by all classes of persons who require the use of an eye-protector.

My improvement is especially advantageous for use by the motormen of electricrailway cars as well as brakemen upon steamrailway trains, and when not temporarily in use it may be folded into a small compass and carried in the pocket.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful is An eye-protector consisting of a transparent piece of celluloid two concavo-convex portions formed thereon adapted to fit over the eyes, fiat portions surrounding said concavoconvex portions molded to conform to the shape of the face, the center portion thereof being formed into a ridge to fit over the upper part of the nose, projections formed at the ends of said protector, said projections having eyelets secured therein, an elastic cord secured through said eyelets, substantially as described. 4
