To all whom t may oon/cern:

Be it known that I, ADELINE ELDE STORY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident Clay Centre, in the county of Clay and State of- Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Means for Securing Coverings of Netting to Baskets; and I do hereby declare that the `following Yis a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.

My invention relates to means for securing coverings of netting or other similar material to baskets.

As is well known, especially in baskets containing fruit, it is frequently desirable to secure thereto a cover of mosquito-netting or other like material to protect the contents, yet at the same time allow them to be inspected and permit of free ventilation.

The object of my invention is to provide simple, economical, and efficient means for securing said coverings to baskets, whereby the same may be readily attached and de` tached when desired.

The invention consists in the novel con-V struction and combination of parts hereinafter described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure lis a perspective view of a basket constructed in accordance with my invention, the covering being secured thereto. Fig. 2 is a similar basket, near the center thereof, is pivoted a bail 3, which may be made of the same material as the basket or it may be made of metal, as preferred. .These bails are adapted to closely embrace the strip 4, passing around the upper portion of the basket when turned down, and are provided with a number of plates or pieces 5 of metal, which are bent up into hook form and engage under the lower edge of the strip 4 or between the splints composing the basket. At the center of the bail is a plate 5a of flexible metal, which passes between the splints and rim, and is then turned up outwardly so as to securely hold the bail in place. The numeral 6 denotes the covering, which may consist of mosquito-netting or other similar material.

To secure the covering in place the bails are elevated or turned up in the position shown in Fig. 2. The covering is then applied and the bails turned down so as to clamp theedges of the covering between the bails and strip 4. The iiexible plates are then bent up and hooked under the lower edge of said strip.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is- Thecombination, with a basket, of the bails pivoted thereto, provided with a series of metallic hooked plates, and the plate at the center of the bail, adapted to pass between the splints and rim and then bent outwardly to secure the bail in place, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
