UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM W. WILKINSON, OF OYNTHIANA, INDIANA.
WASHB OILE R-B ASKE'I.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VILLIAM IV. IVILKIN- SON, a citizen of the United States,'residing at Cynthiana, in the county of Posey and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vashboiler- Baskets; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in clothes baskets for wash boilers in which clothes to be washed are placed, the basket being adapted to be lowered to the bottom of the boiler while the clothes are being boiled, and being provided with means whereby the basket may be supported in an elevated position after the clothes have been boiled.
IVith these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be more fully descibed and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device applied to a wash boiler, the same being represented in elevated position; Fig. 2is a cross section, with the basket lowered and, Fig. 3 is a plan view of the basket.
In the accompanying drawings 1 indicates a wash boiler, which as shown is of rectangular form, and 2 the clothes basket, which as shown is made of wire gauze, or other suitable material and is of the proper This basket is provided at its central or intermediate portion, and at each side with a handle 3, preferably made of a single piece of wire bent to form parallel side pieces e, which are pivoted to the wire basket.
In carrying out the invention the inner or .connected ends of the side pieces t of the handles are extended to form hook portions 5, which are adapted to engage with the upper side edges of the side pieces 6 of the boiler in order to support the clothes basket in elevated position.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed June 1, 1908.
Patented Nov. 10, 1908.
Serial No. 436,094.
As shown in Fig. 2 when the basket is lowered into the boiler the handles may be folded inwardly out of the way to permit the lid or cover of the boiler being placed in position. hen the clothes have been sufficiently boiled the basket is elevated to the top of the boiler and held supported in such position by means of the hook portions 5 of the handles which are engaged with the upper side edges of the side pieces of the boiler.
I11 practice, one of the handles is provided with a suitable hook 5 to tightly receive the other handle whereby the handles may be held at the desired angular relation with the basket and out of the water when the basket is in lowered position.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the prin ciple or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention as defined in the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is In combination with a wash boiler, a clothes basket made of wire netting or other reticulated material arranged therein, handles comprising side pieces pivoted at the opposite sides of the basket, the inner ends of the side pieces of the handles terminating in hooks adapted to engage the upper edge of the boiler and support the basket in elevated position, and a hook carried by one of the handles to tightly receive the other handle with the basket in lowered position.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing wit- IIQSSOS.
WILLIAM W. IVILKINSON.
IVitnesses JOHN B. SMITH, MARY B. SMITH.
