BRIDLE ATTACHMENT.

Be it known that I, JOHN WEsLnY BEAM, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Argos, in the county of Marshall and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bridle Attachments, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to a bridle attachment, having for its object to provide a combined stay and fastenersfor the winkers of a bridle, said stay being flexibly connected to said winkers.

The invention consists of a stay composed of two sections of leather and a wire or stiff core extending therethrough to near the ends thereof, the latter being flexible and connected by two corresponding plates to the ends of the winkers, substantially as hereinafter fully set forth, and particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view in front elevation. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view thereof. Fig. 33 is a detail view of the connecting-plates.

Referring to the drawings, A designates the stay, which is composed of two leather sections (1, wherein is located a wire or stiff core a, which is exposed at the inner opposite ends of said sections, at which point the stay is slightly curved or bent upwardly. To this curved portion of the stay is secured one end of a short billet-strap M, the other end of which is designed to engage the crownbuekle. (Not shown.) 3y not extending the core entirely through the stay the latter is provided with flexible ends, so that the winkers can assume and be held in their normal position.

B B designate two corresponding plates, the upper ends of which are rigidly secured to the ends of stay A by a single rivet l). The plate B is provided with two arms I), which are bent to hug the sides of the stay and overlap the upper end of plate B, and

thus serve as additional securing means. The lower ends of these plates are preferably, but not necessarily, widened, and are designed to extend on opposite sides of a Winker, as TV, and be firmly held by rivets 5 passed therethrough.

The advantages of my invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art to which it appertains, and it will be especially observed that by reason thereof I am enabled to utilize small pieces of leather, the stay being composed of three separate pieces instead of two, as now generally employed. Another advantage is that the stay is stiif at every point save its ends and the billet-strap is secured at the inner ends of the sections and additionally held by being stitched over the core, which is exposed at this point. The fastening-plates by which the ends of the stay are secured to winkers form simple, cheap, and highly-efficient means of connection,preventing the stay from loosening at its points of connection.

I'claim as my invention 1. The herein described stay, having flexible ends and the fastening devices secured thereto, consisting each of two plates riveted to the end of said stay and one of said plates having arms overlapping the other plate, substantially as set forth.

2. The herein-described improved bridle attachment, consisting of the stay composed of two pieces or sections of leather,a core therefor curved or bent at its center and extending to near the outer ends of said sections, the billet-strap secured to said bent portion, and the corresponding fastening-plates attached to the flexible ends of said stay, substantially as set forth.
