Abstract

Slide members for supporting a curtain are mounted for slidable movement in a support constituted of inner and outer telescopic members having aligned slots through which pass depending stems of the slide members. Each of the sides of the slots are formed by coplanar edges of the telescopic members and the planes of the opposite sides are inclined to one another and converge downwardly and outside the telescopic members. The inclined edges can be formed by bending portions of the telescopic members at the slots inwardly. The slide members have inclined side surfaces which ride on the edges of the slot.

FIG].-
APPARATUS FOR SLIDABLY SUPPORTING V CURTAINS AND THE LIKE The present invention relates to devices for slidably supporting curtains and the like and more particularly to guides for slide or roll members in connection with curtain boards. Heretofore, curtain boards or guides therefor had to be produced with exactly dimensioned lengths adapted to the windows etc. in question in order to provide continuous guiding faces for sliding or rolling members on which the curtain is suspended.
An object of the present invention is to provide guides consisting of telescopic adjustable rod tubings or profiles having longitudinally extending slots adapted to provide continuous sliding faces in all mutual longitudinal positions of the tubings r profiles, and the invention is mainly characterized in that the side surfaces limiting said slots in pairs are disposed in the same plane, which planes converge outwardly.
By this arrangement the total length of the profiles may be varied by relative displacement thereof without interruption of the continuous guiding surfaces, or portions of outer profiles may be connected by intermediate portionsof inner profiles with the same result.
Further the invention makes it possible for curtain boards, provided on the lower side thereof with outer profiles, to be built up of units prefabricated to a selected length and interconnected by portions of inner profiles.
The invention will become better understood from the following detailed description in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, in which:
FIG. 1 is a sectional view of an telescopic adjustable curtain rod tubing illustrating the principle of the invention, t a
FIG. 2 is a similar sectional view of a further embodiment of the invention,
FIG. 3 is a sectional view of a eurtainboard taken along line 3 3 in FIG. 5, I
FIG. 4 is a fragmentary sectional view illustrating a somewhat modified embodiment of a curtain board, and
, FIG. 5 is a top plan view of the end portion of a curtain board.
In the drawing FIG. 1 illustrates the principle of the invention. The guiding device consists of outer and inner telescopic adjustable curtain rod tubings or pro files I and 2, respectively, preferably having a rectangular cross-section.
The adjacent lower walls of the telescopic profiles l In orderto ensure that the slide faces 3a, 4a of each pair always are disposed in a common plane, the wall portions 1a, 2a along the slots 3 and 4, respectively, can be bent inwards,as shown in FIG. 2, so as to provide between said portions inwardly converging supporting and positioning surfaces 5 which, for instance by means of a screw 6, through the upper wall of the outer profile 1, may be clamped against each other and thereby hold the surfaces 3a and 4a in correct: mutual position and thereby the effect of possible tolerance or clearance is also avoided.
The slidingmembers 7 are each provided with a head i portion with side portions having inclined converging v profiles 2 may be held in correct mutual position by.
and 2, having their greatest width in the horizontal di- I rection, is each provided with a central longitudinal slot '3 and 4, respectively, the respective side surfaces 3a, 4a
of said slots being disposed in pairs in a common plane, which planes are inclined and converging outwardly, as
shown. Said pairs of surfaces 3a, 40, form supporting slide faces for slide members 7 resting with correspondingly converging surfaces thereon. By this arrangement, theslide surfaces 3a, 4a form continuous guides for slide members in all mutuallongitudinal positions of the profiles. Thus the profiles l and 2 may be extended or shortened for adjusting the total length thereof without any interruption of the movement of slide members on the surfaces 30, 4a, as said members may pass freelyjover both surfaces 3a, 4a of the pairs to only one of them, and vice versa.
surfaces 8 corresponding to the slide faces 3a, 4a of the profiles, and a downwardly extending stem 9 for connection to clips for the curtains (not shown).
Telescopic adjustable profiles constructed as above described may be secured in a window head or on the lower side of a curtain board, composed and adjusted according to the length of said board, or adapted length units of board provided with said profiles 1 may be interconnected by means of junction pieces of the profile 2.
The profiles l and 2 are preferably produced from aluminum by extrusion.
As shown in FIG. 3 and 5, a curtain board may be formed having at least two outer profiles 1 positioned in spaced parallel juxtaposition and formed integral with a support member 10 which at one side may be provided with projections 11 for connection to suitable wall mountings 12. When the board is to be provided with curved end portions this is achieved by means of innerprofiles 2 which are inserted adjustably in the profiles 1 of the board 10 and which have their outer end portions bent about a common center towards the wall W, as shown in FIG. 5. Said bent portions of the means of narrow pieces 10a secured by screws 13 thereto.
At the side of the board remote fromthe wall W, the support member 10 may be provided or formed with means to which a front may be secured. As shown in FIGS. 3 and 5 the support member 10 may be provided with a vertical plate shaped support 14 to which a front cover 15 extending the whole length of the curtain board may be secured, such as by gluing.
In a further embodiment of the invention as seen in FIG. 4, the outer profiles 1 may be mounted in a number of relatively short pieces of a support member 16 secured to the wall W in spaced relation in a horizontal row, adapted to the length of the desired board, and secured by means of mountings 12 in a similar manner as the support member 10 (not shown).
For this purpose the outer profiles 1 at the upper side thereof are provided with laterally projecting flanges 1b receivedin corresponding grooves 16a in said support pieces 16.
I claim:
