- ABSTRACT A sizing device for classifying particles, comprises a frame which is substantially rhom'bic in side elevation or vertical longitudinal section, and carrying a number -of screens, bars, or similar elements having openings larger than the arriving particles. Vibrating means are secured to the frame beneath the screens or the like and symetrically with respect to the shorter diagonal of the substantially rhombic frame, so that the space above the topmost screen is free and substantially unobstructed.
- the invention refers to sizing apparatuses of the dispersing type, i.e., where a collection of particles is introduced to a space where the particles are subjected to collisions against, or forces from, obstacles such as screens, bars, or similar elements or means in such a manner that the particles are brought out of their normal flow in a degree that corresponds to the particle size, so that the bigger the particles are the higher is their probability of being removed.
- An apparatus operating according to this principle is described in the U.S. Pat. No. 2,853,191.
- Such sizing apparatuses have a series of such elements arranged one above the other, the opening in such element or system of elements being wider than the largest particles arriving to it.
- One or more of these systems of elements can be replaced by a divergator, described in US. Pat. No. 3,347,368.
- the elements or systems of elements are mounted in a frame, usually vibrated by means of one or more vibrators.
- vibrators are exposed to the heat mainly by radiation and convection in a very high degree.
- the space above the obstacles is often required for purposes such as feeding, presizing, transportation of presized material etc.

- the apparatus consists of a frame 20, which is substantially rhombic in elevation or in a longitudinal vertical section, in which five screens 1, 3, 4, 5, 6 are arranged sloping from the feeding space 2 with successively increasing inclinations.
- the side walls are'reinforced by beams 16.
- the machine is suspended in eye bolts 11 by springs 10 secured to a suitable support.
- the machine is vibrated by a vibration means, such as two vibrators 19 which are secured to side walls 21 of frame 20, these two vibrators being secured to a transversal wall 15 fixed to side walls 21 of frame 20.
- Vibrators 19 are symmetrically arranged in relation to the device.
- Wall 15 is substantially aligned with the shorter diagonal of the substantially rhombic frame 20, with the vibrators being positioned adjacent the lower end of such shorter diagonal and beneath the lowermost screen.
- the material which is to be sized is fed into the space 2 at the upper rear end of the machine.
- the various fractions can be removed at the outlet ends of each screen 1, 3, 4, 5, 6 and under the bottom screen 6.
- the vibrators are protected from the flow of material by a plate 14.
- a sizing device for classifying particles of the type including plural superposed and vertically spaced classifying elements spaced apart in such a way that, in any part of the device, the openings between adjacent elements are larger than the particles arriving at such part
- the improvement comprising, in combination, a frame, including side walls, supporting said classifying elements and having a substantially rhombic configuration in vertical longitudinal section; the space within said frame above the uppermost classifying element being substantially clear of obstruction; a linear vibrator means mounted within said frame beneath the lowermost classifying element; said vibrator means being positioned symmetrically with respect to the shorter diagonal of said substantially rhomic frame; a transversal wall secured to the side walls of said frame perpendicularly to said side walls; said transversal wall extending substantially in the direction of said shorter diagonal; said vibrator means including at least one vibrator mounted on said transversal wall.
- said vibrator means comprises at least one pair of vibrators, the vibrators of each pair being mounted on respective opposite sides of said transversal wall.
