NITE TATES LOUIS SANDERS, OF NE\V YORK, ASSIGNOR, BY MESNE ASSIGNMENTS, TO ELIZA SANDERS, OF BROOKLYN, N. Y.
BELT-BUCKLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 362,666, dated May 10, 1887.
Application filed March 3, 1887. Serial No. 229,023. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, Louis SANDERS, of the city, county, and State of New York, haveinvented a new and Improved Belt-Buckle, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to a buckle of that class known as ladies belt-buckles, and has for its object to provide a buckle of a simple construction, readily and quickly adjusted, and capable ofattachment to any belt provided with eyelets.
The invention consists in the construction and operation of the several parts ofthe buckle, as will be hereinafter fully set forth, and pointed out in the claim.
Reference is to be had tothe accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is aplan view of the buckle, illustrating the application thereof, and Fig. 2 is a plan view of the buckle. Fig. 3 is a central transverse section through the buckle and a partial longitudinal section through the belt. Fig. 4. is a plan view of a modified form of the buckle, and Fig. 5 is a transverse central section thereof.
In carrying out the invention, the bodyA of the buckle is provided centrally its upper surface a distance from the front edge with a stud, a, preferably made integral therewith, and aloop, B,extending transversely the body, parallel with and near the rear end, substantially from side to side, the said loop beinginclined outwardly and rearwardly out of line with the plane of the body proper, as illustrated in Figs. 3 and At each side of the body, near the looped projection above described, inwardly-extending ears I) are provided, in which ears a pin, 0, is journaled, adapted to carry the ordinary toothed clamp, D, the teeth of which, when the clamp is positioned parallel with the body, engage approximately the under side thereof.
A cap, E, recessed at E, to form the arms 6 c, is pivoted to the body, the pin 0 passing through lugs e, integral with the said arms, the said lugs being adapted to overlap the ears b upon the outside. Centrally the cap E, near the outer end, an aperture, F, is formed, which aperture is adapted to receive the stud a when the cap is closed down upon the body.
The stud a may, if found desirable, be made integral with the under side of the cap E, and the aperture F be formed in the body A, without departing from the spirit of my invention. This arrangement is illustrated in Figs.
4 and 5, in which the body A is provided, from a point one side the center, with a more or less rectangular recess, m, the forward or front wall of which recess is made convex, as at m, centrally, in which couvcxed portion the aperture F is placed. The cap E is hinged to the bar M, dividing the recess m from the loop 13, and the toothed clamp D may be pivoted to bear upon the bar M, in the usual manner.
In operation, one end ofthcbelt N is passed between the teeth of the clamp and the inner side of the body in secure contact therewith. The opposite end of the belt is provided with a reduced portion, a, and one or a series of eyelets arranged centrally and longitudinally the belt.
To fasten the belt, the cap E is raised and 7 the reduced end passed throughthe cap-recess E until suflicicntly tight, and the eyelet in the belt is thereupon allowed to engage the stud a, the free end of the belt being passed through the loop B. The cap Eis now pressed down, the projecting end of the stud entering and passing through the aperture F.
It is obvious that owing to the position of the loop B in relation to the body A a ready and easy entrance of the belt end through the same is permitted, and it will readily be seen that by leaving the aperture F uncovered, in the event the body should become strained, the cap E may be the more conveniently guided to an engagement with the stud c.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- V In a buckle, the combination, with the body A, provided with a loop, B, formed at the rear 5 end out of the plane of said body, and a stud,
a, attached to the upper forward end of the body, and a toothed clamp hinged below the same, of a cap, E, hinged to and above the body, having a recessed rear end, E, and an IOO aperture, F, adapted to engage said lug, substantially as shown and described, and for the purposes herein set forth.
LOU IS S ANDERS.
