To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, THOMAS GILMOUR TTOGAN, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and resident of Edmonton, in the Province of Alberta, Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Skirt and Waist Supporters, of which the following is the specification.

This invention relates to skirt and waist supporters and the objects of the invention i of the same.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved supporter. Fig. is a plan view of the skirt and waist engaging means as seen when open. Fig. 3 is a transverse section of the' supporting means as seen when in engagement with a skirt and waist.

Like characters of reference refer parts in the several figures.

Referring to the drawings, A represents the improved supporter comprising the back member which is substantially formed from a sheet of resilient metal provided intermediate of its breadth with longitudito like nally extending slots 11 which terminate short of the center of the plate. Itwill be readily seen that the plate is capable of being easily bent about its longitudinal axis so that one portion 12 coincides with the other portion 13 when the member is in condition for use.

The portion 12 is provided with a pair of inwardly extending tongues l-l which are in alinement and terminate short of the center of the plate, which center is provided with a tongue 15 adapted to engage with the eyelet 16 in the skirt B.

The portion 13 of the plate is provided with a pair of diverging tongues 17, the

- longitudinal axes of which are in alinement and between the said tongues is located a downwardly disposed tongue 18 adapted to engage an eyelet or aperture 19 in the waist C and prevent the vertical displacement of the same.

The ends of the portions 12 and 13 of the plate 10 are provided with transversely extending slots 20 and 21 with which a. flexible waist band 22 is adapted to engage, the free ends of the said band terminating in interlocking buckles These buckles consists of a piece of resilient metal bent at the center and provided on their outer vertical edge with a plurality of serrations 2% adapted to engage with the flexible band 22, the free ends of which are passed around vertically disposed pins in the buckles 23 and bent backwardly upon themselves thereby facilitating in adjusting the length of the band to suit the convenience of the wearer.

In assembling the supporter it is only necessary to bend the portion 12 of the plate 10 to coincide with the portion 13 whereupon the flexible member 22 may be laced through the slots 20 and 21 and the buckles 23 secured to the ends thereof.

In adjusting the supporter the tongues 17 are engaged with channels or eyelets in the waist or blouse C and the vertically disposed tongue 18 is then engaged with the eyelet 19 in the blouse whereupon the inwardly disposed tongues 14 are similarly engaged with channels or eyelets in the skirt B and the tongue 15 engaged with the eyelet 16 on the skirt preventing the same from being displaced either laterally or vertically.

It will be readily understood that in securing the supporter it is only necessary to adjust the length of the flexible band 22 by pulling on the free ends of the same when they engage the serrated outer edge 24: of the buckle 23 and the supporter is then fastenedas above described in such a manner that the skirt and the waist cannot under any circumstances become displaced.

As many changes could be made in the above construction and many apparently widely different embodiments of my invention, within the scope of the claims, constructed without departing from the spirit or scope thereof, it is intended that all matter contained in the accompanying specification and drawings shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.

What I claim as my invention is:

1. A skirt and waist supporter including a back plate provided with a pair of longitudinally extending slots intermediate of its breadth dividing the plate into two portions, one of the said portions having diverging tongues and the other portion having converging tongues, and means for preventing skirt, and a downwardly disposed tongue on 16- vertieal displacement of the skirt and waist. the other plate adapted to engage the waist. 2.
