Description

(No Model.)
W. K. HERRINGTON.
CUFF HOLDER. No. 351,376. Pa ted 0011.26, 1886.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
\VILLIAM K. HERRINGTON, OF AURORA, ILLINOIS, ASSIG-NOR OF ONE-HALF TO JOHN R. MARTIN, OF SAME PLACE.
CUFF HOLDER,
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 351,376, dated October 26, II 886. Application tiled January 1B, 1886. SerialNo. 188,927. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM K. HERRING- TON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Aurora, in the county ofKane and State ot'Illi- 5 nois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oufiflolders, of which the following is a specification, to wit:
This invention relates to an improvement in cuff-holders; and it consists in certain pecu- IO liarities of the construction and arrangement of the same, substantially as will be hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention pertains to make and I5 use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my device applied to a cuff. Fig. 2 is a plan view, and
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section, of the holder.
Fig. 4 is a modification of the device.
a represents the shank of my device, formed on one end with a loop, at, having an opening or slot, a, on one side, as indicated in Fig. 2.
At the opposite end this shank is extended at nearly or quite right angles to its main body, and doubled or bent back upon itself to form a hook, (6. Upon the main body of the shank a. is placed a slide, 1), on which is pivoted a 0 spring-clip, b, the point-of which bears upon the main shank, as represented.
In use the hooked portion of the main body is engaged with the edge of the cuff and the open loop with the shank of the cuff-button,
as shown in Fig. 1. The cuff is then placed upon the arm, and the wristband of the shirt being engaged by the springclip, the whole is firmly held in place, but is easily and quickly secured and detached at the will of the user.
The clip and its slide are moved up and down 40 on the shank at will, and thus the cuff is lifted and lowered to expose more or less of it below the coat, as may be desired. I
In Fig.4 I have shown a small modification, in which the main shank is formed with a slot provided with a button or stud for the lower button-hole and a hook for the outer one, the sliding clamp being used, as before shown.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a cuff-lioldcr, the combination, with a shank provided with a hook at one end and a loop at the other for engaging the cuff, of a springclip for attaching to the sleeve adjust- 5 5 able upon the shank to the desired position, 7 substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. In a cuff-holder, the combination, with a shank having means, substantiallyas described, for engaging the cuff at two points, of a springelip adapted to slide on said shank, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
8. The combination, with the shank a, having a loop, a, open on one side, and a hook, at, of the slide 1) and its spring-clip b, all constructed and arranged to operate substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereofI affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
IVILLIAM K. HERBINGTON.
