Description

(No Model.) I
J. DUGAW.
REVOLVING SGRAPER.
No. 350,874. Patented Oct. 12, 1886..
Z M I proved device.
UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICEQ JAMES DUGAlV, OF INKSTER, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR OF T\VO-lllIRl)S T0 F. E. COLEMAN AND GEO. REYNOLD, BOTH OF SAME PLACE.
REVOLVING SCRAPER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 350,874, dated October 12, 1886.
Application fileal December 3, 1895.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J AMES DUGAW, of Inkster, in the county of \Vayne and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Iniprovenients in Revolving Scrapers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in road-scrapers; and the invention consists in the peculiar construction, arrangement, and combinations of the various parts, all as more fully hereinafter set forth.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my im- Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal section through the same.
In the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, A represents a suitable frame, between the free ends of the side bars of which the scraper B is pivotally hung, as at a: The rear ends of the side bars 'of the scraper terminate in the sharpened projections C.
D is a catch rigidly secured to the scraper B, and is designed to engage with the springdetent E, secured to the frame, such detent being provided with a hand-rod, F, by means of which the detent may readily be disengaged 0 from the catch at will.
Serial No, 184.581. (No model.)
In practice the draft is applied to the frame A, as shown. \Vhen a sufficient load has been scraped into the scraper and it has been hauled to the dump, the driver releases the spring-detent, the toe of the scraper catches in the ground, and is thereby turned half over, depositing its load, and, the projections C then eatehinginthe ground, the scraper is compelled to turn over into its original position, the catch engaging with the spring-dc tent automatically. The catch 1) is rigidly secured to the back and bottom of the scraper, and serves to stiffen and strengthen the same.
That I claim as my invention is- The combination, with the frame A, of the scraper B, pivoted therein, the rear ends of the side bars of said scraper terminating in sharpened projections C, the catch D, rigidly secured to the back and bottom of said scraper, and the spring-detent 1G, secured to the handle of said frame and provided with the rod F, all constructed, arranged, and operating substantially as and for the purpose specified;
