GLOTHES=DRIER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 339,678, dated April 13, 1886. Application filed October 20, 1885. Serial No. 180,412. lModel.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, J AMES HARVEY Mon- LAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lebo, in the county of Coffey and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Olothes-Driers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to improvements in clothcs-driers, and has for its objects to furnish acompact device for this purpose,which may be easily taken apart or folded up, so as to occupy small space when not in use. It will be seen that it is at once simple, durable, cheap, and handy. These objects are attained by the devices illustrated in the accompany ing drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is an elevation. view.
The letter A indicates the lower portion, forming a bench or stool having three legs, a, spread out, so as to insure its standing firmly and prevent its being easily turned over. The legs a are secured to a circular piece of board, A, by means of screws, or in any other 8011-, venient manner. This board has a central opening for the passage of the lower part, b, of the post B, which is of a circular cross-section, for a purpose hereinafter mentioned. A little above the circular piece of board A is another piece of the same shape, A, also having a central opening for the same purpose as the central opening in the piece A. The legs a enter the lower part of the piece A, and are securely fastened therein,thus forminga bench or stool, which may be detached from the upper part of the drier. Just above the circular piece A is another piece, A, provided with a central opening for the passage of the post I). The piece A is provided with staples G on its opposite sides, which are intendedto engage with hooks D, attached to the lower piece, A, and thereby fasten these parts to each other. A snap-bolt, E, provided with a spring, 6, passes through the piece A, and enters a groove in the post b, at. each end of which is a cavity or hole, G, into which the point of the bolt E may enter, for the purpose of holding the piece A in the proper position Fig. 2 is a plan lowered, as the case may be. On the upper side of the piece A are pivoted eight supporting-rods, I, which extend in an upward direction and have their upper ends secured to eight arms, K K, extending radially from the post B, to which they are hinged or pivoted, preferably by having their inner ends enter the mortises H H, and secured therein by the bolts or pivots h It.
On the upper end of the post B is a ring, J, which is intended to provide a convenient means of lifting the clothes rack or drier from the stool, when it is desired to separate the two.
The radial arms K K have galvanized-wire links or chains L secured thereto, upon which to hang the clothes to be dried, and give on afull-sized rack seventy-five feet and upward of line. A full-sized rack will be five feet high and six feet across.
The lower part,b, ofthe post B is made round, in order to be turned on its axis, which enables the person to put on or take off the clothes without moving from one place to another.
In order to permit the rack to be turned on its axis, the hooks must be unhooked.
Having described my invention, what- I desire to secure by Letters Patent and claim,
I. In a clothes-drier, the post 13, having a handle, J, and slots H H,and radial arms K K, pivoted therein, provided with links L and supporting-rods I, in combination with the circular piece A, having a central opening for the passage of the lower part ofthe said post B, and the circular piece A, having legs a, secured to the periphery of a lower circular piece, A, as shown and described, and for the purposes set forth.
2. In a clothesdrier, the post B, having radial arms K K, provided with links L and supporting-rods'l, secured to a circular piece of board, A, having a central opening for the passage of the part b of said post B, in combination with a supporting-stool consisting of circular pieces of board A A, provided with legs a, the said piece A having hooks D, whereby the upper part of the drier may be attached to said stool, as described, and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony whereof I aliix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
J AMES HARVEY MOBLAN.
