CLOTHES-DRIER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed. August 7, 1908.
Patented July 6, 1909.
Serial No. 47,457.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN D. LEEN, a citi zen of the United States, residing at Bangor, in the county of Penobscot and State of Maine, have invented a new and useful Iniprovement in Clothes-Driers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to clothes driers, the object being to provide a clothes drier which is so constructed that an endless clothes line can be easily and quickly attached to the same so that the clothes can be secured on the line beforehand.
Another object of my invention is to provide a clothes drier with a swinging supporting bar which is operated by a pivoted lever so that it can be swung downwardly to enable the line to be placed thereon and when swung into an upward position the line will be drawn taut.
A further object of my invention is to provide a clothes drier which is exceedingly cheap and simple in construction and one which is composed of a very few parts which are so arranged that they are not likely to get out of order.
A still further object of my invention is to provide a supporting bracket for holding the clothes line in the wash room to enable the clothes to be placed thereon. l
With these various objects in view, my invention consists in the novel features of construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The drawing forming a part of this specification is a perspective view of my improved clothes drier.
In the drawings A indicates a pair of standards which are crossed and secured together by a bolt as shown at B adapted to be secured. in the ground and secured to the upper ends of the standards is cross bar O to which are connected the ends of longitudinal bars D which are supported at their other ends by a cross bar E secured on the upper ends of a pair of similar cross standards F. Secured to thecross bars 0 and E are braces G and H which support the standards in a vertical position so that all danger of the same moving in any direction is prevented. Pivotally mounted in the longitudinal bars D are the angled ends of rods N carrying a cross bar I which is connected to a pivot lever J mounted on the brace G by a cable or chain K for operating the same and it will be seen that when the lever is moved upwardly the bar will drop and when the lever is drawn downwardly it will be swung upwardly for the purpose hereinafter fully described. The lever is locked in a lowered position by a pin G carried by the brace G which engages the reduced portion of the lever and securely holds the same and when it is desired to release the same, it will only be necessary to spring the lever slightly so that it will pass by the pin. A pair of hooks L are secured to the cross bars E and I adjacent their ends over which is adapted to be placed an. endless clothes line M when the bar is in a lowered position and by throwing the lever downwardly the bar is thrown u so as to tighten. the clothes line and secure y hold it in position.
From the foregoing description, it will be seen that I have provided a clothes drier with a detachable clothes line which enables the clothes to be secured on the clothes line before it is placed on the supporting hooks.
hat I claim is The combination with spaced standards provided with cross bars, braces connected to said cross bars, one of said cross bars being provided with s aced hooks adjacent its ends, longitudina bars connecting said cross bars, rods provided with angled ends pivotally mounted in said longitudinal bars, a cross bar provided with hooks adjacent its ends carried by said rods, endless clothes lines adapted to be supported by said hooks, lever pivotally mounted on one of the braces carrying a cable connected to said cross bar and a pin secured in said brace for locking said lever, for the purpose described.
JOHN D. LEEN.
