FOLDING HEAD-REST.
E$PECIFICATIN forming part of Letters Patent No. 319,980, dated June 16, 1885.
' Application filed August 2, 1884. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MAXIMILIAN J. 'KOENIG, a citizen of the United States, residing at J ersey Shore,in the county of Lyc-oming and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Head- Bests, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention has relation to improvements in head-rests, and the same is an improvement on a similar patent granted to me on the 18th day of December, 1883, and numbered 290, 644 and the invention consists in the construction and novel arrangement of the various parts of which it is composed, all as will be hereinafter more fully explained, and particularly pointed out in the claim appended.
The annexed drawings, to which reference is made, fully illustrate my invention,in which Figure 1 represents a perspective View of my folding head-rest. Fig. 2 is aside view of the same, and Figs. 3, 4, 5, and 6 aredetailviews.
Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, A designates the folding head-rest, consisting of the head portion a, made in skeleton form and divided at the center into two parts, b and c, which are hinged to one another, as at d, and the same is perforated around its edges, as shown at e, to receive the stitches or fastenin gs which secure the cushion thereto.
B B represent the arms of the device, which are constructed alike, the upper sections f of which are provided with T- shaped lugs g, which connect with the slots h on the head portion, whereby said head-rest is removably applied to the arms aforesaid. This upper sec tion is bent at right angles to the vertical portion, as shown at i, and to the lower end, j, of which is pivoted the second section, It, and to the lower ends of the second sections are pivoted the third or lastsection, l, as atm. These latter sections are provided with lugs n, that engage notches 0 in the adjoining sections, which serve as stops for the arms when the latter are unfolded for use.
0 0 indicate the straps by means of which the device is secured to the wearer.
It will be seen from the above description and by reference to the annexed drawings that the head-rest can be detached from the arms and folded, and that the arms can also be folded section upon section and stored in a very small space, and it is durable, light to carry, and at the same time cheap to manufacture.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
The herein-described head-rest, consisting of the perforated head portion a, divided into sections 1) c, and hinged to one another and having the slots h h, the pivoted arms B B, the upper section, f, having the T-shaped lugs g 9, adapted to engage the slots in the head portion, and provided with the securing-straps O O, the Whole constructed and arranged as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
MAXIMILIAN J. KOENIG. Witnesses:
D. I. OLEWINE, M. L. STOVER.
