BED-SPRING.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 290,126, dated December 11, 1883.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, CHESTER SLACK, acitizen of the United States, residing at Waynesville, in the county of De Witt and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bed-Springs, of which the following is aspecification, reference-being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

Myinvention relates to bed-springs; and it consists in the parts which will be hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a partial plan view of the bed provided with my improvements. Fig. 2is a section on the line a: mof Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one of the spring-connecting hooks. Fig. 4 represents a perspective view of the two hooks which engage each other, and

parts of the tongues G at the points where said parts diverge to form the top layers of the twin springs F F. Another of the hooks, H, is empl yed to unite the outer sides of the springs hat is to say, it is used to unite the sides of two separate sets of twin springs.

The hook H is also employed at the foot of the bed to unite the springs to the staples K in the foot-board. By this arrangement the lower row of springs are secured to the footboard, and said springs are in turn secured to the row of springs immediately in advance, or to the next row, by means of their tongues and the hooks H.

I is'a device having hook-arms I I and loopend I This device, united with one of the arms of a hook, H, presents four arms, whereby the sides of four of the springs are engaged and held in uniform relation.

L are hooks in the head-board which enlgage and secure the tongues on the upper row of springs. It will thus be observed that the springs are firmly secured lengthwise and side- 'wise; or, in other words, the springs and their connectingmeans present a substantial wire net-work from the head to the foot of the bed. The tongues and the triangular hooks unite to maintain the springs in theirproper relative positions and secure a uniform tension of the parts.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The combination, with a supporting-frame, of a series of double springs, F F, having the connectingtongue G, one row being attached to one side of the supporting-frame, hooks H I connecting the succeeding rows, as described, to eachother and to the opposite side of the frame, as and for the purposes set forth.
