These fastener .members are provided with prongs 41.8 at their outer-ends adapted. to be engaged with the tie members 3 or other partsof the spring assembly. Theprongs- I8 are.prefer-. ablynoffsetito provide loop-likeportions 1.9 so that the fastener member are adapted for snap-on engagementwith.thespring. part. With the fas'-.. tener members-1.4 engaged with .the border mem-.
3 ber and the fastener members IS with the tie wire or some other portion of the spring assembly, the edge rolls are efiectively held with their outer edges projecting beyond the spring assembly.
In upholstering spring assemblies they are usually provided with inner covers adapted to receive and support padding and skirt portions 21. The fasteners may be engaged through this covering. The upholstery covering is arranged over the padding and in supported relation to the edge roll.
In Fig. 8, I illustrate that the fasteners l6 may be variously positioned for engagement with some part of a spring structure as one of the springs indicated at 22. Instead of the staple-like fasteners shown in Fig. 4, single prong fasteners 23 may be employed, these being provided with cross heads 24 at their outer end. i i
In the embodiment of my invention shown in Fig. 5, the beading cord or reinforcing strand for the flap extension 25 thereof is omitted, the flap extension being provided with a single row of stitching 26. The fasteners 27 of this embodiment are offset at 28 on the under side of the roll to retain the same with the upper cross portion of the fasteners in clamping engagement with the roll. This results in offset inwardly facing hooks 29 which are engaged over the border wire 2 or with other suitable support and may be clinched if desired.
The flap portion is adapted to receive clips such as indicated at 30 engaging the side members of the border frame or other parts of the spring structure such as the spring indicated at 31 The edge roll of my invention may be very economical to produce and is easily and quickly applied and very securely retained in desired position.
I have not attempted to illustrate the various adaptations as it is believed those skilled in the art will be able to apply the roll as conditions may render desirable. I have not attempted to illustrate other embodiments of my invention such as variations in shape and the like as it is believed that this disclosure will enable the practice of my invention in a highly practical manner.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
