UNITED STATES LATENT @FFICE.
JOSEI H H. FAITH, OF MASON CITY, ILLINOIS.
BED-SPRING.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 263,883, dated September 5, 1882. I
Application filed June 12, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern r Be it known that I, JOSEPH H. Fm'rrr, a citizenot' the United States, residing at Mason City, in the county of Mason and State of Illinois have invented certain newand useful Improvements in Bed-Springs, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein tothe accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to bed-springs; and it consists in the parts which will be hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a plan view of a frame provided with my improvement. Fig. 2 shows a side elevation of the same. Fig. 3 represents in perspective the manner of attaching the elliptical base of the cone-spring to the bar.
.Similarletters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
The letter A represents the cone-spring; B, a loop formed on the upper end of the wire constituting said spring, by means of which the end is secured and a horizontal ring, 13, formed, the point of the loop being turned under so as not to engage the mattress.
C O are'the pointed ends of the elliptical base, secured to the bar E by staples D D.
F F are cross-slats uniting bars E E.
G G are the inner spiral diagonal wires, crossed and looped at G G.
H is thespiral-wire band.
I I are the points at which the band is looped to the corner rings, B, of the cone-sprin gs A. J
A J and K K are the points on the side and end rings, respectively, where the band is looped and secured thereto.
L L are the points on the rings B, to which the ends of the diagonal spiral wires G G are fixed.
It must be apparent that any number of bars, slats, or conical springs can be employed without departing from the principle of the invention. Y
I am aware that the spring A, as herein set forth and described, and the diagonal inner crossed wires, G G, are not new. do not claim such, broadly; but
What I do claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The spiral-wire band H, looped into the ringsB ofthe outer series of conical springs A, for the purposes of aiding and maintaining an upright position of the springs A and serving to support the outer edges of the bed or inattress, substantially as specified and set forth.
2. The conical springs A, having an elliptical base, the ends of the base 0 0 being united to the bar E by staples D D, the rings 13 of the springs A having the band II and diagonal wires G G secured thereto, in the manner and for the purposes specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH H. FAITH. Witnesses:
