Description

March 19, 1957 H. LOWE-INTHAL 2,785,584
CIGARETTE HOLDERS Fil ed June 6, 1955 spring 13 until the piston 8 is again fully retracted; A
new filter element may then be inserted and the mouthpiece replaced. v
The mouthpiece is again rotated until the grooves 17 r and 18 are coincident with the ribs 15 and 16 whereupon the piston 7 is moved forwardly by the spring 12 and the parts of the holder are returned to their normal positions.
Any other means instead of the ribs 15 and 16 may of course be used to lock the piston 7 against axial movement so that the piston 8 may be moved within the hollow transparent chamber 2 to eject' the filter, but the ribs 15 and 16 have the additional advantage that they also greatly improve the grip of the cigarette holder on a cigarette and are shaped for this purpose.
I claim:
1. In a cigarette holder, 21 body for holding a cigarette, said body having a chamber forcontaining a filter element, a mouthpiece detachably secured to said body, means disposed within said body for ejecting said filter element from said chamber through the end of said body adjacent said mouthpiece when said mouthpiece is detached, and means disposed within said body for ejecting said cigarette from the end of said body remote from 7 said mouthpiece.
2. In a cigarette holder, a body for holding a cigarette,
an opaque tube having one end fixed to said body, a hollow transparent member for containing a filter element disposed within the other end of said opaque tube, a v
' smoke conducting tube having one end slidable in said body and the other end slidable in said transparent member, a mouthpiece detachably secured to said transparent member, and spring means surrounding said smoke conducting tube :and yieldably holding said transparent member in said opaque tube, said smoke conducting tube being selectively movable'in said body to eject said cigarette from the end of said body remote from said mouthpiece and selectively movable in said transparent member for either ejecting said filter element from the end of said transparent member adjacent said mouthpiece when said mouthpiece is detached or for inspecting said element in said transparent member.
3. In a cigarette holder, a body part for holding a cigarette, .a plunger slidably mounted in said body part for ejecting said cigarette therefrom, said plunger having a portion projecting from said body part, a hollow tubular member forcontaining a filter element having one end mounted on said projecting portion of said plunger, a spring surrounding said projecting portion of said plunger, and a mouthpiece detachably secured to the other end of said hollow member, said hollow tubular member being slidable on said projecting portion of said plunger against the action of said spring for ejecting said filter element fromsaid other end of said hollow tubular member when said mouthpiece is detached.
4. In a cigarette holder as claimed in claim 3, further comprising an opaque tube fixed to said body part and extending around the projecting portion of said plunger and said hollow tubular member, said spring yieldably holding said hollow member within said opaque tube.
5. In a cigarette holder, a body part for holding a cigarette, a first piston mounted in said body part, a smoke conducting tube having one end fixed to said first piston, a second piston fixed on the other end of said smoke conducting tube, a hollow tubular member for containing a filter element having'one end mounted on said second piston, a mouthpiece detachably secured to the other end of said hollow tubular member, a first coiled spring surrounding said smoke conducting tube and abutting said body part and said hollow tubular member, said first piston being slidable in said body part against the action of said first spring to eject said cigarette from said body part and said second piston being slidable in said hollow tubular member against the action of said first spring to eject said filter element from said other end of said hollow tubular member when said mouthpiece is detached.
6. A cigarette holder as claimed in claim 5, further comprising an opaque tube fixed to said body part and extending around said smoke conducting tube and said hollow tubular member and a second coiled spring surrounding said smoke conducting tube within said body, said second spring yieldably holding said hollow tubular member in said opaque tube.
7. A cigarette holder as claimed in claim 3, said body part having at least two longitudinally extending internal ribs, and said plunger having a smoke conducting tube, a piston slidable in said body part fixed on one end of said smoke conducting tube, said piston having at least two longitudinal grooves, each of said grooves :being adapted to be engaged over one of said ribs and said ribs being shaped to provide a firm grip for a cigarette.
8. A cigarette holder as claimed in claim 5, further comprising means operable to prevent axial movement of said first piston in said body.
9. A cigarette holder as claimed in claim 8, wherein said means operable to prevent axial movement of said first piston in said body comprise at least :two ribs extending longitudinally of said body and at least two longitudinal grooves in said first piston, each of said grooves being adapted to be engaged over one of said ribs, said first piston being slidable beyond the ends of said ribs and rotatable whereby said first piston is engaged with the ends of said ribs to lock said first piston against axial movement.
