Description

Jan. 31, 1956 c. SERNAKER 2,732,730
I PAWL AND RATCHET WHEEL Filed Jan. 18, 195] INVENTOR.
BY 2 I V62 ATTORNEY.
United States Patent ce PAWL AND RATCHET WHEEL Charles Sernaker, Philadelphia, Pa.
Application January 18, 1951, Serial No. 206,591
1 Claim. (Cl. 74-577) The object of my invention is to provide a unique pawl and ratchet wheel for a flat embroidery machine wherein the take up rollers may be operated individually.
Other objects of my invention are to provide in an embroidery machine, a mechanism of the character described, that is easily and economically produced, which is sturdy in construction and which is highly effective in operation.
With the above and related objects in view, my invention consists in the details of construction and combination of parts as will hereinafter he more fully understood when the following description is read in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, in which:
The drawing shows a view of a pawl and ratchet wheel embodying my invention.
A lifting pawl 20 is adapted to engage a ratchet wheel 22 which is mounted upon a shaft 12. The lifting pawl 20 is pivotally mounted to a lever or link 24.
The lifting pawl 20, pivoted to the arm 24 by a pin 25 has an opening at one end to receive a coiled spring 26 made of music wire which presses against a free riding spring pin 28. The pin 28 causes the spring 26 to exert a force against the ratchet wheel 22 so that pawl 20 will engage the ratchet wheel 22.
2,732,730 Patented Jan. 31, 1956 The holding pin 25 has a flat portion on its shaft flat in order that the flat-headed pin 28 will abut the flat surface in order to return to one position, which position is to keep the pawl against the ratchet.
A set screw through the link 24 abuts the pin 25 to hold it against the link or lever 24.
Although my invention has been described in considerable detail, such description is merely intended as illustrative, rather than limiting, and my invention may be variously embodied, and the scope of the invention is to be determined as claimed.
I claim as my invention:
A pawl and ratchet wheel adapted for an embroidery machine comprising a pawl having an opening therein, teeth on said ratchet wheel, the free end of said pawl being adapted to engage the teeth on said ratchet wheel, a spring in said pawl opening, a spring pin abutting one end of said spring, and a pawl holding pin pivotally mounting said pawl having a fiat portion so that one end of said spring pin abuts against said flat portion of said spring pin in order to hold said pawl against said ratchet wheel.
