Abstract

The vice has a release mechanism giving rapid retraction of the mobile jaw (1). The screw (2) is associated with the mobile jaw (1), a half-nut (6) encompassing the lower periphery of the screw. The half-nut can be disengaged to permit rapid retraction by sliding. The screw (2) may have a saw-tooth thread (2') and the nut may be mounted on the free end of a slender cantilever bar (7). The end (10) of the bar is engaged by a coil type torsion spring (11) with an axial pin engaging the fulcrum of a hand-lever (8). When the levr is pivoted, the bar is twisted, and a radial lug engages a stop to resist the twisting motion. The bar is deflected and effects a radial displacement of the half-nut relative to the screw.
