SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 267,547, dated November 14, 1882.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, WILLIAM E. LEIGIITON, of \VestPembroke,Washington county, Maine, have invented anew and useful Improvement in Combined Music-Stools and Pedal Attachments, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

My invention consists of a music-stool having a pedal attachment for children, the attachment being adapted to be folded and shoved back into the base, or under the stool, when the stool is to be used by adults.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved music-stool as it appears when arranged for children. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation as it appears when arranged for a grown person; and Fig. 3 is a plan view of the stool arranged for children, part of one of the pedals of the stool being broken away.

The seat A and screw support or shank B of the stool are of ordinary construction. The socket or pedestal G, into which the screw support or shank passes, is secured upon the base I), which is a hollow box or chamber. In this box or chamber is placed the sliding board E, which carries the vertical board F at its outer end. Upon the upper edge of this vertical board is hinged the narrow strip G, to which are hinged the pedals H H of the stool,which are provided upon their under sides with the hinged IOtls or arms gg, which are adapted to rest upon the pedals of the organ or piano for operating them.

hen the stool is to be used for children the sliding board E will be screwed or otherwise fastened to the floor, so as to hold the stool the proper distance from the instrument for the arms or rods 9 g to rest properly upon the pedals of the instrument. changed to suit the child by moving the stool upon the board, and when not in actual use it can be moved close to the instrument for economy of space.

\Vhen the stool is to be used by grown persons the board E will be detached from the floor, and the pedals H II will be folded back upon the board E and the arms or rods g folded upon the pedals, and the whole shoved back into the box or chamber D and fastened by a button, hook, or other similar means, as shown in Fig. 2.

To prevent all danger of the ends of the rods or arms g g slipping upon the pedals of the instrument, I provide the same with the concave metal sockets i i, in which the ends of the arms or rods rest.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In combination with a musicstool provided with a hollow base, the sliding board E, having the elevated and hinged pedals H H, as and for the purposes set forth.

2. The music-stool formed with the hollow base or chamber D, in combination with the hinged pedals H 11, connected to the said base or chamber, substantially as herein shown and described, whereby the pedals are adapted to be folded and moved into and withdrawn from the chamber, as and for the purposes set forth.

3. In combination with the base-ehamber D and sliding board E, provided with the vertical board F, the hinged strip G, hinged pedals H H, and the hinged arms or rods gg, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.

4. The elevated and hinged pedals H H of the stool, provided with the arms or rods {1 g, in combination with the pedals of the instrument, provided with the sockets t, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
