LAM P-CHIMNEY PROTECTOR.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 263,743, dated September 5, 1882.

to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanyingdrawings, which form a part of this specification.

Figure l is a perspective view of my im proved lamp-chimney protector detached; and Fig. 2 is a perspective view, showing the same in position for use.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both figures.

This invention relates to lamp-chimney protectors; and it consists of a collar adjustable upon the neck of a lamp-burner, and having an upright wire carrying a wire ring adjustable upon the lamp-chimney, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and particularly 2 5 pointed out in the claim.

In the drawings hereto annexed, A represents a collar of brass or other suitable metal fitting upon the neck ofa lamp-burner, B, or attached securely thereto by any suitable means.

0 O is an elastic metallic wire attached to the collar A, having abend or bracket, D, near said point of attachment, and extending from thence upwardly, as shown.

E is a ring, formed of a piece of wire, which has at one end a loop or eye, F, by which it is 5 adjustable upon the wire 0, and another loop,

G, to receive its opposite or free end H, by inserting which into the loop G the said ring is formed. It will be seen that by drawing the end H into or out of the loop G the size of ring E may be conveniently adjusted so as to fit a chimney of any size.

.Fig. 2 of the drawings shows my invention in position. It will be seen that by adjusting the ring E upon the chimney near its upper 5 end the wire 0 is caused to lie in contactwith said chimney for the greater portion of its length. It thus serves partly as a hold'r for the chimney, and also to diffuse the heat of the same, thus preventing it from cracking in the event of its being exposed to a cold draft or for other reasons.

I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- The combination, with the collar A, having upright flexible wire 0, of the adjustable Wire ring E, having loop F fitting upon said wire (J, and loop G, in which its free end H is adjustable, as set forth.
