My invention relates to `a clothes hanger, and has more particular reference to a simple disposable hanger made of cardboard or the like for hanging coats and trousers or similar apparel.

lCleaning and pressing establishments, laundries, hotels, and the like invariably find the cost of supplying conventional wire hangers to be a sizable item of expense in handling clothing which has been cleaned or pressed. Such hangers are often unsatisfactory because of their cost and the damage they can cause to fabrics due to snagging or to rust marks.

The principal objects of my invention are to design a serviceable clothing hanger which may be made of inexpensive material such as cardboard, stili paper, or the like; to provide a hanger which may be stamped out in nat form and conveniently folded into hanger shape as needed; to furnish such a hanger having space which may be printed with an advertisement or the like; and to eliminate the possibility of rust marks and snagging of clothing which sometimes results from use of metal hangers, these and other objects being a-ccomplished as hereinafter described, reference being had to the accompanying drawing in which:

Fig. 1 shows the completed hanger in folded form, with portions broken away to show structural details;

Fig. 4 is a sectional view on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1.

Referring now to the drawing, my folded cardboard clothes hanger is designated generally by the reference numeral I and consists of two cooperating sides II and I2 which are formed from a single material blank as shown in Fig. 2 and connected at their respective bases by the folds I3 and I4 at the extremities thereof.

Between the folded extremities I3 and I4 each side II and I2 is provided with an inwardly and upward-ly turned cuff strip I5 and I6, each of said strips being substantially identical in width and height with its counterpart on the opposite side of the hanger.

The upper portions of the respective sides II and I2 are provided with hooked ends I1 and I8 which are substantially identical in size and shape and which cooperate to form hanging means. i

In manufacturing a hanger of this type a sheet of suitable material such as cardboard, stiff paper,

2 or the like is cut and scored to form a blank I9 as shown in Fig. 2. Ihe blank I9 is provided with a transverse slit 20 across the center portion thereof in alignment with the scored portions 2I and 22.

At the respective ends of the slit 20 the blank I9 is provided with slits 23 and 214 at right angles to the transverse slit 20 and extending an equal distance to each side thereof. Between the respective ends of said slits 23 and 24 the blank I-S is provided with scored parallel lines 25 and 26.

A hanger I0 is formed from the blank I9 by folding the portions dened by the transverse slit 20 and the endwise slits 23 and 24 along the sco-red parallel lines 25 and 26 to form the culi strips I5 and I6 and by folding the blank I9 in the same direction along the scored portions 2l and 272 to form the respective sides II and I2 of the hanger I I).

In using the said hanger I l) for hanging a pair of trousers, for example, the sides II and I2 of the hanger are unfolded to a relatively wide angle to enlarge the opening between cuif strips I5 and I6 and to facilitate insertion of the cui ends of the trousers through the said opening. The si-des II and I2 are then folded together, and the cuff strips I5 and I6 engage under the outer edges of the respective trouser cuffs, thus preventing withdrawal of the cuff ends of the trousers.

A suit coat or the like may then be hung over the shoulder-like ends of the hanger I0 in the conventional manner and the hanging of the suit coat thereof tends to prevent unfolding of th-e hanger, and thereby to prevent displacement of the trousers which are supported by the cuff strips I5 and I6.

While I have shown and described my invention in a preferred form, I am aware that various modifications can be made therein without departing from the spirit of my invention, the scope of which is to be determined by the appended claims.

What is claimed is:

1. A foldable hanger-forming blank comprising an elongated body section of sheet material having a relatively long slit extending lengthwise of the blank and substantially centered with respect thereto and having at each end thereof a shorter slit extending transversely thereof and forming therewith a composite elongated I- shaped slit, said blank having scored lines at the respective ends of the I-shaped slit and axially aligned with said relatively long slit and substantially parallel scored lines at the respective sides of said relatively long slit and extending between the respective ends of said shorter slits.

A foldable hanger-forming blank compris- -ing an elongated body section of sheet material vhaving a relatively long slit extending lengthwise -of the blank and substantialy centered with re- `spect thereto and having at each end thereof a shorter slit extending transversely thereof and forming therewith a composite I-shaped slit, said blank being foldable along lines at opposite ends Y respectively of and aligned with said rela'- tively long slit so that the portion of the blank fat one side of said long slit and said lines of foldI lies alongside the portion of the blank at the opposite side of said long slit and said lines of fold, those parts of the blank which are atvthe opposite sides of the long slit andeitendbetweeri? the shorter slits each being foldable otwardly from the long slit location along'11ines`whiclif are from said margin in a direction awayfr'omfsaid long slit.

A clothes hangenof theclass described com'- prising two'cooperatin'g panels arranged side by 4 side and having corresponding elongated base portions which are joined together along the bottom at each end, and at least one of which panels has a hook member at the top thereof midway between the ends of the base portion thereof, each said base portion having in the bottom thereof an elongated shallow notch which extends between said joined together Vends and corresponds to and conjointly with the notch of the other base portion provides an opening leadv ing upwardly to the space between the panels,

each panel having at the inner side thereof a long narrow flap which extends substantially from end-to" end of the notch and projects upwardly therefrom between the panels in opposed relation to the corresponding ap of the other panel.
