UNITED STATES PATENT O IcE.
LOUIS KYSER AND ALFRED O. REX, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
TOY CHARIOT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 258,772, dated May 30, 1882.
Application filed December 31, 1681. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, LOUIS KYSER and ALFRED O. REX, both of the city and county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented an Improvement in Toy Chariots, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention has reference to toy chariots 5 and it consists of a frame supported upon wheels and adapted to be drawn along the ground, said frame carrying a bell, a pivoted arm, arranged to be actuated by a crank on one of the axles to strike the bell, and a figure having movable arms which respectively hold a hat and a flag and are constantly vibrated when the chariot is in motion.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a sectional ele vation of our improved toy chariot on line 00 a: of Fig. 2, and Fig. 2 is a cross-section of same 011 line y g of Fig. 1.
A is the frame, and is supported upon wheels B and F, the latter of which are journaled in a pivotframe or fifth-wheel, H, pivoted to the frame at G, and the former are secured firmly upon their axle O, which is provided with crank D. On the front end of the chariot is a stud, I, which supports a bell, J, held in place by an eagle-nut, K.
Pivoted at N to the frame A is a hammerlever, M, provided on one end with the curved arm M, which is pressed down with every revolution of the wheels B by the crank D. This hammer M strikes the bell J through the opening L in the frame A.
Situated over the axle O is a figure, W, pref erably in representation of a negro, which has its two arms, 0 and O, secured to a crank, R, which is connected with the crank D of axle O by a rod, S.
Secured to the frame H is a rod, T, or its equivalent, to which to attach the cord with which to pull the chariot.
As the toy is drawn along the ground the crank D rotates, causing the hammer M to strike the bell J, and at the same time the arms 0 and 0 move, causing the figure to alternately take his hat ofi' and put it on with one arm, 0, and wave the flag Q in the other, 0.
The toy may be designed to suit any nationality by suitable coloring and using the proper flag.
Having now described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. A toy provided with wheels and adapted to be propelled on the ground, having a bell rigidly secured to the frame mechanism independent of the figure to ring said bell, and a figure having two movable arms, one of which carries a tlag and the other a hat, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. The combination ot'acarriage upon wheels with bell J, pivoted hammer M, crank D, figure W, having pivoted arms 0 0, one of which carries a hat and the other a flag, Q, crank R, and rod S, substantially as andfor the purpose specified.
3. In a toy chariot, the frame A upon wheels BF, crank-axle (J, figure \V, having arms 0 0, one of which puts a hat on and off the head of the figure and the other waves a dag, Q, crank It, and rod S, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony of which invention we hereunto set our hands.
LOUIS KYSER. ALFRED U. REX.
