FIGURE WHEELED TOY.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 2, 1922.
' Application filed April 30, 1921. Serial No. 465,637.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, Jon MAZL'R, a citizen of the United States, residing at Monessen, in the county of Westmoreland and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Figure Wheeled Toys, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a toy, the general object of the invention being to make the toy in the form of a horse drawn vehicle with means for propelling the toy by a spring motor carried by the vehicle.
Another object of the invention is to pro vide means for causing tie horse to have a rocking movement and the driver to move his arms as the toy travels along.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanyingdrawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure l is an elevation of a toy construct ed in accordance with my invention.
Figure 2 is a plan view.
. Figures 3, l and 5 are detail views.
As shown in these views the toy comprises a vehicle 1 provided with the shafts 2, the horse 3 and the driver l. The horiie is pivotally mounted between the shaft by means of the crank rod 5 which has its ends passing through holes in the shafts, and the center part of which is looped to engage the horse, as shown at 6. T he driver l has his arms secured to the ends of a shaft 7 which passes through the body of the driver, one arm being raised and the other extending downwardly, as shown. The downwardly extending arm is connected with the head of the horse by the rein 8 and the other arm carries a whip 9.
A spring motor 10 is suitably supported in the vehicle body and this motor is geared to the rear axle of the vehicle, as shown at 11. The motor is also provided with a crank 12 and links 13 connect said crank with the raised arm of the driver.
From the above it will be seen that when the spring motor is wound up the unwindingof the spring thereof will cause the rear axle to rotate so as to propel the vehicle along the floor and I prefer to place the front axle at an incline, as shown at 1 f, so that the toy will travel in a wide circle. As the crank 12 is revolved by the motor it will cause shaft 7, through the links, to rock so as to rock the arms of the driver. One arm being connected with the horse will cause the horse to rock up and down between the shafts and the other arm holding the whip will give the effect of the driver whipping the horse.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages andnovel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
\Vhat I claim is Shafts journalled in a vehicle, a horse pivotally mounted between said shafts, a driver mounted within said vehicle at the front thereof, a crank rod having its ends passing through holes formed in said shafts for pivotally mounting the horse between the shafts and having the center part thereof looped to engage the horse, said driver having his arms secured to the ends of one of said shafts and having one arm extending downwardly and the other raised, a rein adapted to connect a downwardly extending arm with the head of the horse and a whip carried by the remaining arm, a spring motor supported in said vehicle body and geared to the rear axle thereof, a crank provided on said motor and links connecting said crank with the raised arm of the driver, and the front axle of the vehicle placed at an incline to permit the toy to travel in a wide circle.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature. 5
