Description

(No Model.)
N. T. FoLSoM.
THI'LL LUG. No. 254,763. Patented` Mar. 7,1882.
" UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIcE.
NEHEMIAH T. FOLSOM, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO JOHN S. FOLSOM, OF SAME PLAGE.
THILL-LUG.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 254,763, dated March 7, 1882.
Application filed September 5, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Beit known that I, NEHEMIAH T. FoLsoM, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain lm- 5 provernents in Thill-Lugs, of which the following is a specication.
This invention consists of a novel thill-lug, constructed substantially as I will hereinafter describe and claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l represents a side elevation of a thill-lug embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents an edge view of the same. Fig. 3 represents a section on line w x, Fig. 2.
The same letters indicate the sameparts in all the figures.
In the drawings, t represents a metal thilllug,l1aving in its upperend a recess, a', adapted to receive the ends of a leather loop, b, the zo bight of which loop holds the cross-bar of the buckle c. The loop b is secured to the lug a by screws d d, which press a metallic plate, e, against the ends ot' the loop, said ends being interposed between the plate e and the recess 25 n. The loop b can be readily removed by withdrawing the screws d d.
If desired, the plate c may also serve to secure aloopstrap,f, to the lugas shown, one side of said loop-strap bein gin terposed between 3o the plate e and the lug.
It will be seen that my invention enables a `harness-maker to readily apply to a metallic lug a buckle of any desired size and width, so that the lug can be readily applied to a saddle-strap of any desired Width Without requir- 35 ing alteration of the strap.
My present invention is an improvement on the lug described in Letters Patent of the United States issued to me January 18, 1881, No. 236,703, the loop b taking the place of the 4o rigid socket formed in said patented lug to receive the cross-bar of the buckle, said loop giving the lug a neat appearance and enabling different sizes of buckles to be used with the same lug. The loop also prevents the wear to 45 the cross-bar of the buckle which the aforesaid rigid socket causes.
The loop b may, it' desired, be made of any suitable `material other than leather.
I claim- 5o NEHEMIAH T. FOLSOM. Witnesses:
