Description

Sept; 13, 1949. L CASCIO 24.819603 BRASSIERE I Filed Jan. 31, 1947 Jack Lo Cascio Patented Sept. 13, 1949 UNITED 2,481,603 BRAssIRE Jack Lo Cascio, Bayonne, N. J., assigner to Even- Pul Foundations, Inc., New York, N. Y., a corporation of New York Application January 31, 1947, Serial No. 725,646
2 Claims.
This invention relates to garments of the type known as brassires.
The primary object of the present invention is to provide an improved brassire which includes elastic sections and control straps which are so formed and arranged as to effectively control the form of the wearer and insure satisfactory fitting of the garment to the wearer.
Another object of the invention is to provide a garment of the above kind which is simple in construction and economical to manufacture.
The exact nature of the present invention will become apparent from the following description when considered in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is an exterior front View of a brassire constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary inside view showing the central portion of the brassire when laid out iiat.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary horizontal section taken on line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary vertical section taken on line 4-4 of Figure 1.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the present brassire comprises a body-encircling band composed of a central portion 5 and tapered end portions 6 attached to the side edges of said central portion 5. The end portions 6 have elastic straps 'I extending therefrom and provided with means, such as a hook 8 and a series of eye members at 9, for separately and adjustably connecting them together at the back of the wearer.
The central portion 5 consists of breast cups Ill, an intermediate inelastic section II, and end horizontally yieldable elastic sections I2. The sections II and I'2 are directly joined together as at I3 below and substantially at the vertical center lines of the breast cups I l). and said sections resnectivelv have arcuate edges as at I4 and I5 which are stitched to the lower portions of the breast cups III along the edges of the latter.
Horizontally yieldable elastic control straps IB extend across the inner faces of the elastic sections I 2 near the lower edges of the latter, and these control straps are attached at their respective ends to the adjacent sides of the intermediate section II and the tapered end portions 6 as at I1.
The elastic sections I2 act to effectively support and spread the breasts, as well as to insure a satisfactory fitting of the garment to the wearer. The straps I6 also co-act with the lower portions of the sections I2 to effectively control the form of the wearer by exerting tension on the section I I beneath the breast cups.
Suitable shoulder straps I8 are attached to the upper portions of the breast cups I0 and the separable ends of the tapered end portions `Ii, to
provide adequate support in the usual manner.
The breast cups Ill are preferably strengthened at the bottoms thereof by stitching an extra layer of material I9 to the outer faces of the bottom portions of said breast cups.
In actual practice, the present garment has proven most eflicient and satisfactory, the garment being extremely comfortable to wear and affording a most desirable control of the form of the wearer and substantially perfect fitting of the garment to the wearer. Also, the elastic sections I2 permit expansion of the garment as to girth, thereby permitting comfortable chest expansion in breathing. VWhile the garment has been generally referred to as a brassire, it may obviously constitute the brassire portion of a combination garment. such as a corselette or bathing suit.
What I claim is:
l.. In a brassire, a front portion including a pair of breast cups, an inelastic section having curved side edges directly joined to the adiacent side edges of the breast cups and having a lower portion extending beneath the breast cups and to the vertical center lines of said breast cups, a pair of horizontally yieldable elastic sections having curved inner side edges directly joined to the outer side edges of the breast cups. said elastic sections extending to the tops of the breast cups at the outer sides of the latter and having lower portions extending beneath said breast cups and directly joined to the side edges of said lower portion of said inelastic section at said vertical center lines of the breast cups, and tapered inelastic end portions spaced from the breast cups and directly joined at their wider ends to the outer side edges of the elastic sections. and means to separably connect the narrower ends of said end portions at the back of the wearer.
2. The construction defined in claim 1. in combination with horizontally yieldable elastic control straps extending across the inner faces'of the lower portions of said elastic sections and permanently attached at their respective ends to the adjacent side edges of the intermediate portion and the tapered end portions.
