NURSING BOTTLE HOLDER Filed July 2, 1946 k n INVENTOR. 5 MICHAEL RAYKO ATTORNEYS Patented Dec. 10, 1946 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE NURSING BOTTLE HOLDER Michael Rayko, Indiana, Pa
Application July 2, 1946, Serial No. 681,060
3 Claims. 1
This invention relates to a novel and improved holder for baby nursing bottles, the primary object of the invention being to provide a holder so constructed as to eliminate the danger of shaking of the baby which is incident to other holders which retain the nipple in the babys mouth after feedin has ceased.
Another important object of this invention is to provide a nursing bottle holder wherein means is provided to hold the bottle flexibly in such a manner that when the baby stops feeding and releases the nipple of the bottle, the bottle will swing so as to carry the nipple upwardly out of the babys mouth, yet within reach of the babys hand so that he can resume feeding when so inclined.
A further important object of this invention is to provide a nursing bottle holder of the character indicated above which securely and comfortably supports the bottle in the proper position in the crib close to the shoulders of the reclining infant, and which is composed of a minimum of simple and inexpensive parts.
Other important objects and advantageous features of this invention will be apparent from the following detailed description and accompanying drawing, wherein a specific but non-limitative embodiment of the invention is set forth merely for purposes of illustration.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a side elevation, showing the bottle tilted in feeding position in full lines, and in released tilted position in dotted lines.
Figure 2 is a transverse Vertical section taken on the line 22 of Figure 3, and
Figure 3 is a left hand end or front elevation of Figure 2.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the herein illustrated embodiment of the invention comprises a frame comprisinga pair of similar inverted T- shaped sides 4 and 5 which may be made of wood, plastic or metal, with one arm of the cross head 6 elongated as indicated at l. The sides 4 and 5 are flat and relatively thin and have their edges rounded as indicated at 8, and their terminal ends semi-circular in shape as indicated at 9, I!) and II, respectively, so that all possibly harsh points of contact with the baby or his crib or the coverings thereon are eliminated.
The straight lower edges I2 are designed to rest upon the supporting surface of the crib (not shown), with the uprights I 3 of the sides projecting straight upwardly in substantially perpendicular planes.
The sides 4 and 5 are secured rigidly together parallel to each other to rest upon the crib on opposite sides of the baby, by means of a cross member M which has depending concaved legs 15 secured by means of screws or the like It to the inner surfaces of the uprights it below the upper ends I l thereof.
The bottle holding member comprises a rectangular or other suitable cross section bar I! parallelly spaced above the cross member 14 between the upper ends of the frame side uprights l3 and rockably supported on its longitudinal axis by pivot screws or the like l3 mounted in said uprights, said bar being sufficiently wide at its middle to provide a firm rest for the nursing bottle l9.
A rubber or other suitable material bottle holding strap 26, or other suitable equivalent, has its ends secured at 2| to the top of the bar ll so that when the bottle I9 is pushed through the resulting loop the bottle will be securely held on the bar H, and will be capable of lengthwise adjustment in accordance with the amount of feeding fluid in the bottle to predetermine the tendency of the bottle to overloalance and return to the retracted position illustrated in dotted lines in Figure 1, when released by the baby during interruptions in or at the end of his feeding.
Retracting helical springs 22 have their upper ends attached at 23 to the back of the ends of the bar l1 and are slanted outwardly and have their lower ends attached at 24 to the legs l5 of the cross member I4, so that when the [baby releases the bottle nipple 25, the bottle will be gently but positively swung upwardly, so that the nipple is withdrawn from the babys mouth and the bottle assumes an out-of-the-way but readily reachable position during an interruption of or at the end of the baby's feeding, so that there is no danger of the nipple gagging or choking the baby.
What is claimed is:
1. A holder for a nursing bottle, comprising a frame comprising a pair of sides to rest upon a supporting surface at opposite sides of a baby, a cross memlber secured to and between upper portions of said sides, forwardly and rearwardly tiltable bottle holding means mounted on and between said sides above said cross member, and spring means normally retracting said bottle holding means into rearwardly tilted position.
2. A holder for a nursing bottle comprising a frame consisting of a pair of sides arranged to rest upon a supporting surface at opposite sides of a baby reclining on such surface, said sides being elongated to extend longitudinally alongside of the baby and having uprights thereon rising therefrom, a cross member secured to and between upper portions of said uprights and rigidly securing said sides together in substantially parallel relation, bottle holding means comprising a bar pivoted at its ends to and between said uprights above said cross member whereby said bar can tilt forwardly and rearwardly on its longitudinal axis, spring means operating between said frame and said bar and normally rearwardly tilting said bar rearwardly, andbottle securing meanson said bar for releasably securing nursing bottle rest ing thereon with the nipple of said bottle directed forwardly, said spring means being arranged so as to yield to permit the bottle to assume a forwardly tilted position with the bottle nip-pleiin'the mouth of the baby, and to return to a rearwardly tilted position when the nipple is released by the baby.
3. A holder for a. nursing bottle comprising a frame consisting of a pair of sides arranged to rest upon a supporting surface at opposite sides of a baby recliningon such surface, said sides being elongated to extend longitudinally alongside of the baby and having uprights thereon rising therefrom, a cross member secured to and between upper portions of said uprights and rigidly securing said sides together in substantially parallel relation, bottle holding means comprising a bar pivoted at its ends to and between said uprights above said cross member whereby said bar can tilt forwardly and rearwardly on its longitudinal axis, spring means operating between said frame and said bar and normally. rearwardly tilting said bar rearwardly, and bottle securingv means on said bar for releasably securin a, nursing bottle rest- ,ing thereon with the nipple of said bottle directed forwardly, said sprin means being arranged so as toyield to permit the bottle to assume a forwardly .tilted positionwith the bottle nipple in the mouth of the baby, and to return to a. rearwardly tilted position when the nipple is released by the baby, said bottle securing means compris-
