Application February 8, 1944, Serial No. 521,522
7 Claims.
Thisinvention relates to nursing'bottle holders of the type shown and described in my co-pending application Serial No. -504,202,'fi1ed-September 29, 1943, now Patent Number 2,342,051, dated February 15, 1944, wherein is shown a device adapted to be placed on'the bed adjacent to the reclining infant, and which holds the bottle at the correct height and in an inclined position to enable the nipple on the bottle to be located conveniently to the child.
The primary object of the present invention is to provide a nursing bottle holder of the character mentioned, wherein a simple and eifective means'by which the angle of inclination of the bottle as well as the height of the bottle from the bed, may beeasily adjusted, so that the child 'may contentedly consume the bottle contents while comfortably reclining on the bed.
A feature of the invention consists in the employment of asingle adjusting means by which both the height of the bottle from the bed and "the inclination of the same'may be easily regulated, whereby simplicity and convenience in the adjustment of the device is had.
In the accompanying drawing, wherein an illustrative embodiment of the invention is disclosed, Fig. 1 is a side elevation of a nursing bottle holder constructed in accordance with the invention; Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same; Fig. 3 is a front view of the holder, with parts broken away to disclose construction, and Fig. 4 is a sectional view on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
In the embodiment of the invention disclosed in the drawing, a bottom or base member is shown at I, the same being adapted to rest upon the bed during the feeding of the infant. Secured to the side edges of the base I and arising therefrom are spaced parallel side members 2 and 3, co-operating with the base I in the formation of a channel-like supporting structure. The structure as above described is reinforced and strengthened by a front piece 4 and by a similar rear piece 5, these pieces extending between the side members 2 and 3 and being secured to the same as well as to the ends of the base I.
At 6 is shown the bottle-supporting cradle, which is situated between the side members 2 and 3 and is provided with a concave upper face 1 shaped to conform to the bottle III which rests upon and is supported by the cradle B in the manner shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1. At its forward end, the cradle 6 is provided with a crosspiece 8 that is cut out as shown at 9 to engage the bottle adjacent to its neck and hold it against sliding movement. If desired, a strap or other similar fastening member may be used to hold the bottle down on the cradle, such a fastening device being shown in my co-pending application heretofore referred to.
The side member 2 is provided with a vertically disposed, and preferably slightly angular, slot I2 which has its closed opposite ends located below and above the top and bottom edges respectively of the side member 2. Firmly secured in the side of the cradle 6 and projecting laterally therefrom is a threaded stud I Iwhich extends through the slot I2 and is capable of both rotative and vertical movement in the slot to thereby incline and raise or lower the cradle as hereafter pointed out.
Adjustable on the stud II is a'nut I3, which may be in the form of an ornamental knob or other element easily engaged by the fingers to adjust it on the threaded stud II. It. will be apparent that by tightening the nut or knob I3 on the stud II, the face I4 of the cradle 6 will be drawn tightly against the inside face I5 of the side member 2 and thus clamped thereagainst and held from shifting movement.
On the other hand, when it is desired to shift the position of the cradle, such as to incline it to a lesser or greater extent, the nut or knob I3 is then manually loosened, and the cradle can then be tilted as desired. It is also desirable to be able to raise the bottle to the extent required to enable the child to easily reach the nipple. Since the stud I I is vertically movable within the slot l2, the cradle, carrying the bottle as described, can be manually raised or lowered to an extent required when the nut or knob I3 is loosened on the stud I I.
From the foregoing, it will be apparent that by loosening the nut or knob I3, the cradle can be raised, lowered or tilted as desired, and by tightening the nut the cradle will be at once fixed in the selected position wherein the bottle is most conveniently placed for access by the child. By means of this arrangement, the desired tilt of the bottle, as well as the height of the nipple from the bed, can always be maintained so that the child can be fed with only occasional attention from the mother.
The device is such that it may be made wholly from wood and in various attractive and ornamental forms. Hence the embodiment shown is necessarily an illustrative one contemplating numerous modifications within the scope of the claims appended hereto.
