COMBINED KITCHEN-SAFE AND EXTENSION DINING-TABLE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 238,495, dated March 8, 1881.`

Application led June 16, 1880.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, THEoDoR EEDIN, of the city andcounty of San Francisco,in the State of California, have invented a Combined Kitchen- Safe and Extension Dining-Table; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof', reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

My invention relates to what I call a kitcheli-cabinet.7

It consists of a cabinet the top of which, when folded or closed up, forms a kitchentable, but which can be extended so as to form a dining-table. The cabinet has a safe department for vcold victuals, a Hour-box, spice, cutlery, and table-linen compartments, a breadboard, and meat-board, thus combining in a single article of furniture kitchen-table, dining-table, and kitchen-safe.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure l isa perspective view. Fig.2is an elevation, showing the back of the cabinet. Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse section.

A represents a box or cabinet. The top of this cabinet is made in two parts, B C. The part B is fixed and covers one-half of the box, while the part C is attached to slides g, which pass through grooves under the table-top, so that it can be drawn out toward the front and admit of an intermediate leaf, D, being inserted between it and the lixed leaf in the ordinary way of inserting additional leaves in extension-tables. A leaf, E, is hinged to the rear edge of the xed leaf' B, so that it can be raised and supported by slides h t', which pass under the table-top parallel with the slides g, or by brackets, in the usual way. The temporary or additional leaf I), when not in use, is kept in a rack at the back of the cabinet.

When the cabinet is used for a kitchen-table the hinged leaf E is dropped, the temporary leaf Dis placed in its rack, and the sliding leaf C is closed against the tixed leaf B 5 but when it is to be extended to serve as a dining-table the sliding leaf C is drawn ont and the temporary leaf D inserted between it and the fixed leaf. The hinged leaf E is then raised, and the top forms a large and complete table.

Just under the sliding part C of the table- 5o top is a bread-board, J, which can be drawn out like a drawer Awhen occasion requires. Underneath this bread-board is a series of drawers, K K K, extending entirely across the cabinet, in which spices or condiments can be kept.

L is a meat-board, which also slides like a drawer into an opening in the cabinet.

M is a large flour-box, in which a sack of iiour can be emptied.

'n a n are small drawers, in which coffee, tea, knives and forks, or other articles can be contained.

O is a drawer for napkins.

P is a kitchen-safe compartment, forming a part of the cabinet, the drawers K n O being disposed around it in the manner shown, so as to leave a sufficient space. The rear side of the cabinet is cut away at the back of the safe compartment, and wire-gauze is secured 7o over the opening, so as to afford access of air to the safe and to keep out dies and insects.

This provides an exceedingly convenient article of kitchen furniture. It combines a kitchen-safe with a kitchen-table, and provides all the necessary drawers for spices, Hour, e., and a kn-eading and meat board, the whole being readily convertible into an extended dining-table.

Having thus described my invention, what 8o I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,

In a kitchen-cabinet, the cabinet or case A, having the fixed top section B, with a hinged leaf, E, and the sliding top section C, having 85 the cleats or bars g g, sliding under the fixed section B, sliding implements J L, Hour-box M, drawers n n O, safe P, and additional leaf D, the cabinet having a rack for holding the leaf D when not in demand, substantially as 9o and for the purpose set forth.
