Description
Aug. 21, 1945. s. H. ELWELL SLIDE LOOP Filed Nov. 18, 1943 Patented Aug. 21, 1945 w A U T DQS This invention relates to slide loops,-the physical combination of aslide, adjustable upon a strap, and a button loop adapted to clip over a button carriedby a garment to be thereby: supported, the invention more particularly relating to the slide portion of :the device. i
It is old toprovide a pair of strap loops ina common plane and separated by an intermediate bar into whichlloops twostraps together are threaded against accidental sliding movement thereon, but ithas'iequired the ingenuity of invention to provide a similar form of slidefor a fixed threaded relation thereof with a single strap. Such form, howeverghas been constructed and reduced to practice but, to obtain a binding effect, one of the pair of loops usually made of wire, is so constructed that the strap passage is marginally reduced :to snuglyreceive the thick marginal hems of the strap thus bound therein.
The invention about to be disclosed resides in such an improvement of a pair of loops structure wherein the binding effect upon a single strap is acquired by means of the peculiar form and association of an intermediate bar to a wire loop structure of a slide loop of which the binding element does not involve the marginal porvice; Figure 2 is a similar view of the device 11- tangular opening l2, whichgwhen divided by an intermediatebar, comprises a pair of loops l2 andl2' in a common plane. The'numeral designates the intermediate bar of sheet-stock, of metal or plastic, having the looped hinged end 2| fora swinging engagement upon oneof the sides; 2 or 3,:of the wirestructure, as at 3, and a clasp 22 adapted to catch upon the oppositeside The lower edge 'of the intermediate folded edge :in close promixity to the spaced alignedvlower bar portions 4' and'5, and a central portion of the upper edge of said bar,'as at 24, is? also reinforced by means of a flange projecting forwardly into the opening l2during the closed position of the bar 20 and adapted to function as a strap binding element in close offset proximity to the upper horizontal bar I.
The intermediate bar 20, upon either side of the centrally flanged edge 24, is recessed to provide the enlarged openings, as at 25 and 26, to adequately accommodate :the marginal thick hems S of a two-ply single strap S illustrated bythe Figure 5, the strap portions being relatively secured, one to the other, by the stitching S", a
, central thin portion S4lying between the hems lustrating a rear view of an openly swung intermediate bar; Figure 3 is a side elevation of the device illustrating a front view of an openly swung intermediate bar and outline of a strap threaded into the device, but with a generous outwardly looped extension thereof to admit the bar to swing therethrou'gh to either closed or fully-opened position; Figure 4 is a similar side elevation illustrating in outline a strap snugly engaged within the device; Figure 5 is a tragmentary face view of a strap illustrating the marginal hems in exaggerated perspective; and Figure 6 is a perspective of a detail.
Attention being called more particularly to the accompanying drawing, the numeral I designates the upper horizontal bar of the wire structure; 2 and 3 the side bars thereof; 4 and 5 the relative spaced horizontally aligned portions of the lower bar structure, and 6 and l the resilient companion arms integrally depending from the said aligned portions to provide a button-receiving loop 8 and a button-retaining loop 9, the wire terminals I0 and II being formed to receive a uniting clip (not illustrated), the upper portion of the wire structure providing thereo- For compact shipment, the relatively movable parts of the device are maintained in closed position, as illustrated by the Figure 1. To mount the device upon a single strap, however, the bar 20 is pulled open against the holding propensities of the clasp 22 and swung to a fully open,
position upon its hinged end 2|, as illustrated by the Figure ,2. The looped portion S of the strap S, as illustrated by the Figure 3, in dotted edge outline, is passed from the rear of the device into the wire rectangular opening I2 a suflicient distance to permit the intermediate bar 20 to pass into and through the loop 3', to
its closed position illustrated by the Figures 1 and 4. The looped portion S, of the strap S is then drawn into the device to the snug dotted position illustrated by the Figure 4. In such drawn-in position, the thick hems S of the strap S rest without additional bulging within the enlarged openings 25 and 26 and the intermediate thin portion S4 of the strap S engages over the flange 24 of the closed intermediate bar 20 and under the upper horizontal bar I of the wire formation, thus binding the straps within the slide loop against accidental sliding of the device upon the strap S.
To readjust the device longitudinally of the thereon, the bar 20 remaining in its closed position, the strap portion snugly looped over the bar 20, is substantially lifted away from the bar 20 and the binding flange element 24 so that the strap is thereby adapted to be adjusted above and below the bar 20 before being drawn in again over the flange element 24.
While the clasp 22 is provided as a fastening element-for the free end of thebar 20, yet the same is unnecessary; for the dlosed 'bar 20 is adequately held in position by means of a threaded strap S within the device. The cutmetal edge 22 of the clasp 22 is adapted to 3139' fixed to the wine structure, .would :provide in.-
