CAP HANGER Filed Nov. 23, 1951 Eino W. Hinsala INVENToR.
la BY 5% W muy www Patented Dec. 29, 1953 UNITED- STATES z 2,663,875 v CAP HANGER' y f Y* Eino-W'.-Hintsala, New York Y Application November 23, 1951;,f-Seral Nozz' The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in hangers particularly for caps of the military or uniform .typeand has for its primaryvobject to provide,` in amanner. ashereinafter set forth, a device of this character com-v prising a novel construction and arrangement whereby such caps may be expeditiously suspended in an out of the way position from a shoulder strap or collar thereby leaving both hands free and unencumbered.
Another very important object of this invention is to provide a hanger of the aforementioned character which may be expeditiously attached to a conventional cap without the necessity of making structural alterations therein.
Still another very important object of the invention is to provide a hanger of the character described which, when not in use, will be completely concealed in the cap and which, further, will detract in no way from the appearance of said cap when being worn.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a cap hanger of the character set forth which will be comparatively simple in construction, strong, durable, compact, light in weight and which may be manufactured at low cost.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specication, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding partsthroughout .the several views, and wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view, showing a hanger constructed in accordance with the present invention in use.
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view through the front portion of a cap with a hanger constructed in accordance with the present invention mounted therein.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the device.
Figure 4 is a perspective view, showing the suspension strap folded as when the device is not in use.
Figure 5 is a longitudinal sectional view through one end portion of the device, taken substantially on the line 5 5 of Figure 4.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that the embodiment of the invention which has been illustrated comprises a resilient bar E of metal, plastic or other suitable material.' The bar 6 is adapted to be mounted circumferentially in the upper front portion 1 of a conventional military or uniform vcap 8. Toward this end, the bar 6 has formed therein at an inter- ICIv mediatezpoint arr opening 9i .which `a'acorn-:riodates the usual front emblem bolt I0-of the cap 8; y I Y On :one n.end,.the;1bar Y.6, isaformedY to provide lan integralfsocket. .I1I.;i The. socket* I-I :comprises a laterally bent portion 23 terminating in a reversely bent end portion I2 which parallels the bar 6 in spaced opposed relation thereto and which is provided with inturned` side anges I3. The vlongitudinal edges of the flanges I3'abut the corresponding edges of flanges I 4 which project from the lonigtudinal edges of the adjacent portion of the bar 6.
Extending into the other end portion of the bar 6 from one of the longitudinal edges thereof is a slot I5 defining a transverse nger or member I, the purpose of which will be presently set forth.
Pivotally mounted at I1 on an intermediate portion of the bar 6 is a slotted plate I8. A suspension strap I9 of plastic or other suitable material has one end securedto .the plate I8. Mounted on the free end of the A'strap I9 is a substantially U-shaped resilient clip 20.
It is thought that the manner in which the device is used will be readily apparent from a con- Y sideration of the foregoing. Briefly, the clip 20 is engaged with the usual shoulder strap 2| of the garment 22 for suspending the cap 8 from said shoulder strap in the manner shown in Figure 1 of the drawing. If desired, the cap may be suspended in front of the wearer. Still further, the clip 20 may, if desired, be engaged with the collar for suspending the cap therefrom. When the device is not in use the strap I9 is engaged in the slot I5, wrapped around the linger I6 and brought back over the bar 6 and the resilient clip 28 is inserted under tension in the socket Il where it is frictionally retained. When the strap I9 is thus folded and secured the device will be completely concealed in the upper front portion 'I of the cap 8.
It is believed that the many advantages of a cap hanger constructed in accordance with the present invention will be readily understood and although a preferred embodiment of the device is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction may be resorted to which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. A cap hanger of the character described comprising a resilient bar including means at an intermediate point for securing said bar in they front portion of a cap. a plate pivotally mounted longitudinal edges of the bar abutting the rst Y named flanges.
2. A cap hanger comprising a bar for mounting in the front portion of a cap, a socket on one end of the bar, a finger on the other end of said bar, a suspension strap connected to an intermediate portion of the bar, and an attaching clip on one end of said suspension strap, said V.strap being foldable around the nger and said :.:clip being engageable in the socket when said strap is not in use.
3. A caphanger comprising a resilient bar including means atan intermediate point for securing said bar circumferentially in the front portion of a cap, said bar having a slot extending into one end portion thereof defining a transverse finger at the end of said bar, a socket integral with the other end of the bar, a suspension strap connected to the bar at an intermediate point between the securing means and the finger, and an attaching clip on the free end of the suspension strap, said suspension strap, when not in use, being engageable in the slot and foldable around the ngerand said clip being engageable in the Vsocket for retention thereby.
