BELT BUCKLE.
Application filed ()ctcber 11, 1922 Serial No. 593,754.
To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, NIoKETAs C. Govis, a subject of the King of Greece, residing at Seattle, in thecounty of King and State of ashing-ton, have invented a certain new and useful Belt Buckle, of which the follow-- ing is a specification.
My invention relates to the art of belt buckles. The object of my invention is to provide a belt buckle characterized by its simplicity and the readiness with which it may be moved into engaging position on a belt.
A further primary object of my invention is to provide a belt buckle which can be very economically manufactured.
The above mentioned general objects of my invention, together with others inherent in the same, are attained by the device illustrated in the following drawings the same being merely preferred exempl ry forms of embodiment of my invention, throughout which drawings like reference numerals indicate like parts:
Figure 1 represents a view of a buckle applied to a beltwhich buckle embodies my invention 2 is a view in longitudinal section of said buckle and a portion of the belt;
3 is a view of said buckle with the belt engaging member in open position;
Fig. 4 is a view of said belt buckle in side elevation, the belt clasping means being open as respects both ends of the belt; and
Fig. 5 is a view of the rear side of the said buckle.
A clasp member 6 is provided with a belt receiving recess 7 a gripping member 8 is pivotally mounted at 9. This gripping member is provided with a thimble 10 and is preferably provided with a stud 11. The said gripping member is preferably formed with two leaves 12 and 13, which leaves are formed of two pieces relatively pivotally movable. Leaf 13 is preferably provided with a sleeve 14-. The end portion 15 of a belt is provided with holes 16 and 17 through which the stud 11 and the sleeve 14 may be cause: to pass. A screw 18 serves to releasably clamp the two leaves together upon the said end portion 15 of the belt by engaging the threaded interior 19 of the thimble 10.
An offset 20 in the rear side of the clasp affords a position in which the gripping member may lie when in closed position and thus affords a continuous back to the clasp, so that there will be no objectionable chafing of the clothes of the wearer. A recess 2-1 in the interior of the clasp affords an opening into which the thimble 10 may be projected and releasably secured by snapping therein.
The operation of the buckle embodying my device is as follows: One end portion 15 of a belt is inserted in the gripping member 8, the stud 11 passing into the hole 16 and'the sleeve 14: passing into the hole 17. The screw 18 serves to bind the two leaves 12 and 13 of the gripping member 8 together upon the end portion 15 of the belt. The stud llfunctions to maintain the longitudinal axis of the clasp in line with the longitudinal axis of the end portion of the belt so that the belt buckle maintains its proper position on the belt and gives a neat appearance. The other end portion 22 of the belt is caused to ass through the belt receiving recess 7 and as said end portion is provided with holes 23, 24 and 25, the thimble 10 may be caused to extend through the appropriate hole, either 23. or 25, with which it may register and thus securely and releasably hold the end portion 15 of the belt within said clasp 6.
Obviously, changes may be made in the forms, dimensions, and arrangement of the parts of my invention, without departing from the principle thereof, the above setting forth only preferred forms of embodiment.
I claim:
1. A belt buckle embodying a clasp member; a gripping member pivotally mounted upon said clasp member said gripping member having a projecting thimble; means to releasably secure said gripping member to one end portion of a belt; and a recess in said clasp wherein said thimble may be projected, and releasably secured.
2. A belt buckle embodying a clasp memher having a belt receiving recess therethrough; a gripping member pivotally mounted upon one side of said clasp member intermediate the length of said clasp and having a projecting thimble; means to releasably secure said gripping member to one end portion of a belt; and a recess in said clasp wherein said thimble may be projected and releasably secured.
3. A belt buckle embodying a clasp member having a belt receiving recess therethrough; a gripping member pivotally mounted upon one side of said clasp member intermediate the length of said clasp, said clasp having an oii'set in which said gripping member may lie whereby is formed a continuous back for said buckle; said gripping member having a projecting thimble; and means to releasably secure said gripping member to one end portion of a belt; and a recess in said clasp wherein said thimble may be projected and releasably secured.
4. A belt buckle embodying a clasp member having a belt receiving recess therethrough; a gripping member consisting of two leaves relatively pivotally movable and pivotally mounted upon one side of said clasp member intermediate thereof, one of said leaves having a projecting thimble; a means to releasably secure said gripping member to one end portion of a belt; and a recess in said clasp wherein said thimble may be'projected and releasably secured.
5. A belt buckle embodying a clasp member having a belt receiving recess therethrough; a gripping member consisting of two leaves pivotally mounted upon one side of said clasp member, one-of said leaves having a projecting thimble and the other of said leaves having a stud; means to releasably secure said gripping member to one end portion of a belt, said stud functioning to maintain the longitudinal axis of the clasp in line with that of the belt; and a recess in said clasp wherein said thimble may be projected.
6. A belt buckle embodying a clasp member having a belt receiving recess therethrough; a gripping member consisting of two leaves pivotally mounted upon one slde of said clasp member one of said leaves having a projecting thimble with a threaded interior and the other of said leaves having a stud; a screw disposed to pass through both leaves and clamp therebetween the end portion of a belt and engage the threaded in terior of the thimble, said stud also engaging the belt end portion intermediate the said screw and the pivotal point; and a recess in said clasp wherein said thimble may be projected after passing through the other end portion of said belt.
In Witness whereof I hereunto subscribe my name this 28th day of September A. D. 1922.
