Description

Oct.' 24, 1944.. w. LAMMERICH ROLL BLOTTER Filed July 14, 1942 -..-l-; ||||11||||| lll'b- Wfl/amine( z'cz :,---lliillf Patented Oct. 24, 1944 ROLL BLo'r'rER Wilhelm Lammerich, Lugano, Switzerland Application July 14, 1942, Serial N0. 450,876
In Switzerland April 15, 1942 Claims. (Cl. 1Z0-24) Roll blotters hitherto produced generally consist of a rocker to which a pad of blotting-paper strips is attached, the ends of the strips being heid ln place by a ilat clip. The parts of the blotting-paper strips lying at the center of the rocker are subjected to particularly heavy use for blotting purposes and are thus prematurely used up, while the parts on either side of the center are not fully utilized. The insertion of the strips also causes certain diiculties, and the same is true of the removal of a used strip.
The object of the present invention is a roll blotter. According to the invention, a movable strip of blotting-paper is attached to the rocker and can be moved by hand with the aid of adjusting mechanism.
In the enclosed drawing the object of the invention is represented in one possible variation by way of example. The drawing shows:
Fig. 1 a vertical cross sectional view,
Fig. 2 a top view, with the covering plate partly removed,
Fig. 3 a front View.
I is the hollow wooden rocker, with curved undersection 2 and side walls 3. To the under-side of the covering plate 4 are attached pegs 5, which engage spring clips 6, the latter being affixed to the side Walls 3. Spring pegs 5 and spring clips B hold the removable covering plate 4 firmly in the position shown.
1 is a revolving handle situated on top of the covering plate and equipped with a female thread socket 8 into which is screwed the threaded upper section lof revolving bolt II. Bolt Il passes through opening I2 in the covering plate and also through cross-piece I3, which connects the two side walls 3, and its lower end enters loosely into block I4, which is affixed to the inner side of the under-section of the rocker. The middle section of the bolt is provided with a worm I5 which engages cog-wheel It, the latter turning on spindle or shaft I1. On this shaft is also a transport cog-wheel I9, the teeth of which engage cog-wheel 20, which is rigidly fixed on spindle 2l of receiving roll 22. The movable blotting-paper strip 23 .is wound upon receiving roll 22 as roll 23', and passes around the outside of rocker under-section 2. 24 is a paying-out roll, on which the movable blotting-paper strip 23 is rewound as roll 23". 25 is the spindle of paying-out roll 24. The under-section is provided at its ends, near to covering plate 4, with apertures 2S, and next to these are placed thev guide rolls 21 which revolve on spindles 2B.
If handlel 'I is turned in a clockwise direction,
revolving bolt Il and Worm I5A also turns. The latter turns cog-wheel I6 and, by means of shaft I1 and-cogs I9 and .20, receiving roll 22 is turned in a counterclockwise, direction (Fig. l), so that the movable blotting-paper strip 23 is wound up and moved along on rocker undersection 2, a corresponding length of the blot- `ting-paper strip being wound off paying-out roll is turned in an antifrom the thread- 2li. If, however, handle I clockwise direction, it unscrews ed upper section l0 of bolt II, and covering plate 4 can be removed, the inside of the rocker thus being made accessible.
Paying-out roll 24 can be provided with a cogwheel in the same way as receiving roll 22, so that the two can be interchanged and both sides of the blotting-paper strip can thus be fully utilized for blotting purposes. The moving of 'the blotting-paper strip along the under-section 2 of the rocker is effected quickly and easily by the turning of handle 'I. i
The rocker can obviously also be `manufactured in metal or artical material. The essential requirement is that handle 1 of the rocker should serve at the same time to move the blottingpaper strip.
It will be obvious to those skilled in the art that various changes may be made in thisv invention Without departing from the spirit thereof,- and the invention is not limited towhat is shown in the drawing and described in the speciflcation, but only as indicated in the appended claims'.
I claim:
1. In a blotter of the character described, a hollow rocker, a blotting paper strip underlying the rocker, a pair of rolls journaled in the hollow rocker upon which the ends of the strip are wound, a cover plate for the rocker, mechanism within the hollow rocker to effect movement of the strip over the rocker when transferred from one roll to the other roll, including a rotary shaft in the rocker projecting upwardly through the cover plate, a handle attached to the upper end of the shaft and a worm gear drive between said shaft and one of said rolls.
2. A blotter as set forth in claim 1, wherein a cross piecel at the upper end of the rockerghas the shaft journaled therethrough and a bearing block on the bottom of the hollow rocker into which the lower end of the shaft is seated.
3. A blotter as set forth in claim 1, wherein pegs depend from the cover plate and spring clips are carried by the rocker to receive the pegs and retain the cover in position.
4. In a blotter of the Character described, a hollow rocker comprising an arcuate bottom Wall, Vertical side walls and a removable top wall, a knob handle above the top wall, a blotting paper strip underlying the rocker with the vends thereof extending into the rocker body, a roll within the rocker body adjacent each end thereof upon which the adjacent ends of the blotting paper strip are Wound, -a gear trainwithin the rocker body operatively engaged with one'of said rolls for the winding of the blotting paper strip thereon, said gear train including a shaft extending upwardly through thecover and an operating knob secured to the projecting end of the shaft.
5. A blotter as set forth in claim 4, wherein the shaft is rotatable and the gear train includes a worm Wheel meshing with a worm on the shaf t.
