KEM ORANDUM AlIL-IANGE) Application filed. October 27, 1926, Serial No.- 144,490',-and in Great Britain November 2, 1925:
This invention relates to apparatus for use in recording engagements other memoranda of the type comprisi-ngahollow casingor frame wherein a pair of parallel rolllersarerotatabfly mounted and a band of paper is wound fromeoff one roller on to the other passing between apertures l in a plate, theapertures being suitably labelled and provided for enabling a pencil or other record to be made on the paper. a
The object of my invention is to provide improved apparatus of this type.
Apparatus made in accordance with my present invention is characterized by de tachable winding rollers each comprising two longitudinal pieces with coned ends said longitudinal pieces .being held together and positioned by cup-shaped sockets, one of said sockets for each roller being mounted on the casing and the other on an axially-movable spring-pressed winding spindle positioned in and passing through the casing.
The invention will be more readily understood by referring to the accompanying drawings in which Fig. 1 shows in perspective one form of appliance made in accordance with this invention;
Fig. 2 shows a detailed view of the inner construction thereof;
Fig. 3 is a plan of Fig. 1.
In the form of apparatus shown, 1 provide a box or cabinet (1 in which are mounted two winding rollers b and 0. Between these rollers is wound a strip of paper f suitably ruled. At each end of one face of the'cabinet is a slot 9 in which is disposed an idle roller and the strip of paper f, in passing between the winding rollers b and 0 passes through and over these slots 9 and idle rollers h, and, in this manner a portion of the paper always lies flat on one face of the cabinet, which permits notes to be made thereon.
On the strip of paper may be printed lines. divisions or any suitable configurations by which memoranda may be classified.
The winding rollers are preferably detachable from the sides of the cabinet and the spindles are made in two sections 11 and j between which the ends of the paper strip may be gripped. Each spindle is held in position and the parts thereof are held together by virtue of their ends being tapered and fitting into cup-shaped ends of side shafts km which are mounted in the sides ofthe cabinet. Of these side shafts one 7c, is mounted in hearings in any cu stomary manner and the other an forms the winding spindle and is' mounted in such a manner that it, is capable of axial movement and passes out through the side of the cabinet being-provided with a knob or handle 92 by which it may be turned Discs 0 are mounted onthe ends of each side shaft for .maintaining in alignment the rolls of paper and a spring 9 is interposed between each disc of each slidably mounted shaft m and the side of the cabinet. Stops are moreover provided on the shaft for limiting its axial movement. A projection 7' is also provided on the spindle which projection engages with a slot 79 in the winding spindle and interlocks the two.-
A slotted collar t is mounted externally of the cabinetthrough which the shaft passes and an internal groove u'is formed therein in order that a projection 4; formed on the shaft may not prevent the rotation thereof. The projection however, may pass up the slot w in the collar t if the shaft'is pulled against the spring, and if the shaft be partially rotated it will engage with the top ofthe collar and hold the shaft in this p0- sition, thus holding the spring in compression and allowing the winding spindle to be inserted.
In use'it will be seen that engagements or other memoranda may be written on or read from the exposed portion of the paper and if necessary the handles or knobs n on the winding shafts may be operated, thus bringing any other desired portion of the paper into view In a convenient form of marking the paper the strip is divided up into equal portions, each portion denoting a week in the year, and being sub-divided into days, space being left for the required memoranda.
A grid or plate at of any suitable material may be provided, adapted to lie flat over a portion of the exposed writing material f, and this plate may bear any words, representations or denominations which would v otherwise be written directly onthev writing material.
I am aware that roller spindles in two sections held together by end sockets are known in the construction of blinds, screens and the like, and make 'noclaim to such construction, per se.
Detail construction of such apparatus may be varied without departing from the scope of the invention.
hat I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is l. A memorandum appliance comprising a casing, a pair of winding rollers rotatably mounted in the casing, a band of paper adapted to be wound from one roller on to the other, idle rollers rotatably mounted in said casing over which the band of paper passes and is guided thereby part of the band being exposed and lying flat on the face of the casing, the said winding rollers being of a spindle-like form made in two longitudinal pieces between which the ends of the band of paper is held, the ends of the said two longitudinal pieces being tapered and located and held together by cupshaped sockets, one of said sockets for each roller being mounted on the casing and the other on an axially-movable spring-pressed winding spindle positioned in and passing through the casing.
2. In a memorandum appliance of the kind described detachable Winding rollers each comprising two longitudinal pieces with V coned ends, said longitudinal pieces being held together and positioned by cup-shaped sockets, one of said sockets for each roller being mounted on the casing and the other on an axially-movable spring-pressedWinding spindle positioned in and passing through the casing.
In testimony whereof, I alfix my si nature.
