1 Claim. (01.215 43) This invention relates to new and useful improvements in closures especially] adapted for those types of receptacles known as thermos bottles.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a'closure for thermos bottles which 3 includes a stopper which cannot becomedisplaced, which accidents frequently happen, perhaps with the ruination of an adjacent lunch.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following description.
In the drawings: r Figure 1 represents a sideelevational view of a thermos bottle showingthe closure in place and the drinking cup cap in section.
Figure 2 is a section on the line 2-2 of Fig- Figure3 is a fragmentary side elevational view showing the stopper and carrier therefor removed from the neck.
Figurelis a bottom plan view of the stopper and carrier.
Figureb is a vertical sectional view through the stopper and carrier. c Figure 6 is a perspective view of the stopper carrier.
Referring to the drawings wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that numeral generally refers to a thermos bottle which has a conventional neck portion 6, at the shoulder portion of which are threads 1.
In carrying out the present invention, a drink ing cup cap 8 isemployed which may be of conventional construction but of a size which will accommodate the present invention. v
The present invention is more particularly and generally referred to by a numeral 9, the same comprising an internally and externally threaded ring) having a cage-like construction defined. by a pair of U-shaped members] I and I2 crossed at their intermediate portions and to these crossed portions of the U-shaped members ll andIZ is secured a stopper l3 by a rivet M.
This rivet passing longitudinally through the stopper [3 and through the crossed portion of the U- shaped members I], I2.
The ends of the U-shaped members H and I2 are welded or otherwise secured to the upper side oftheringlo. l
It can now be seen that by placing the ring In over the threaded portion 1' of the neck 6 and screwing the same down onto the neck, the cork or stopper [3 is driven into the neck 6 of the bottle and cannot become accidentally displaced without unscrewing the ring ID. The drinking cup cap 8 can then be disposed over the cage ll, [2 and the neck 6 and "screwed onto the ring. l0.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having described the invention-what is claimed as new is:
A'closure for a bottle of the type provided with Y an upstanding tapering neck and external threads at the base of the neck, said closure including an annular internally threaded ring for turning onto said threads, a cage surmounting said ring and comprising a'pair of U-shaped members upstanding from the ring in relatively right angled planes and including intersecting intermediate portions,
' and a stopper in said'cage fixed'directly to said portions at the intersection thereof. ROBERT B. MARTIN.
