My invention relates to a cigarette holder, and more especially to a holder which is adapted to be carried on a finger ring to be worn on the finger when the cigarette is being smoked, novel means being employed for clamping the cigarette on said ring.

An object of the invention is to provide a device of this character in which provision is made whereby the clamping means and associated parts may be adjusted at various positions on the ring.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a device having a mounting which is adjustable on the ring, said mounting being provided with spring means which is adapted to bear against the ring, and which permits the mounting to which the clamping member is attached to be adjusted at various angles on the aforementioned ring.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character having a base member whereby the holder may be placed upon a table without bringing the cigarette or cigar in contact with the table, thereby obviating any likelihood of scorching or burning the table. I

A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is characterized by its simplicity, inexpensiveness to manufacture, and eificiency and durable construction.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.

With the foregoing in view, the invention resides in the novel subject matter hereinafter described and claimed, the description being supplemented by the accompanying drawing, in

In the drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 4 generally designates the cigarette holder as an ensemble. In the present illustration the device is provided with a base denoted by the numeral 5 which may be oval, circular, or any preferred shape, and has secured thereto a metal ring 6 which is welded or otherwise secured to the central portion of the base member 5, as indicated by the numeral 1.

Mounted on the ring is a cylindrical mounting 8 which is suitably provided with vents or ports 9 which serve as air cooling means to prevent the holder from becoming overheated from the lighted cigarette. The mounting 8 is adapted to be adjustable at various angles on the metal ring 6, and in order to accomplish this, I provide spring means I0 and a pin II. The pin II is grooved to fit the ring 6 so that when the spring Ill exerts its tension upon the pin, the device may be firmly held in place on the metal ring and may be adjusted at various angles.

In order to render the friction retaining action of the spring pressed plunger effective, a nut 8a is fitted into the lower end of the cylindrical mounting. Thus, since the ring 6 passes between the nut and the head ll of the plunger, a desirable frictio-n grip is had! In the preferred embodiment of the invention I provide a clamping member l2 preferably formed of sheet metal which is provided with a bottom portion l3 and is so shaped to conform to the shape of a cigarette or cigar C, as fully illustrated in Figure 1 of the drawing. One edge of the channeled member I3 is bent to form a retention clip M for the purpose hereinafter to be described. I provide a clamping plate it which is pivotally secured to the rear portion of the clamping member l2, as indicated by the numeral Hi. The clamping plate I5 is bent to form a keeper hook, as at ll, which is adapted to embrace the retention clip M for firmly holding the cigar or cigarette against displacement. The metal clamping plate l5 terminates in a hand grip 18 to facilitate opening and closing it.

The operation of the device is as follows: The metal ring 6 is soldered or otherwise secured to the base 5, after which the mounting 8 is mounted on the ring. The spring pressed pin H bears against the ring 6, thereby producing a friction grip to firmly hold the mounting 8 against displacement. Bodily movement of the mounting 8 will of course cause a sufficient compression of the spring III to allow easy hand movement of the mounting 8 when it is desired to adjust the latter at various angles on the metal ring 6. The clamping member I2 is then secured to the mounting, as previously described. The cigarette is then placed in the cradle-like portion of the clamping member, after which the clamping plate 15 is closed and firmly locked as indicated, the whole operation being performed with little or no effort at all.

From the foregoing it will be apparent to persons skilled in the art to which theinvention appertains that I have produced a cigarette holder 55 for carrying a cigar or cigarette on the finger, and my device permits the person wearing the same to work, write, or perform various duties without the likelihood of the cigarette interfering with such work. Furthermore, my device permits the cigarette to be deposited at various places withous the likelihood of the cigarette coming into contact with tables, stands, or other places where the cigarette is deposited, thereby eliminating any danger of burning, scorching, or otherwise mutilating the objects on which the cigarette is placed.

It is thought that the description taken in connection with the drawing will enable a clear understanding of the invention to be had. Therefore, a more lengthy description is regarded as unnecessary.

Since excellent results are obtainable from the details disclosed, they are preferably followed. However, within the scope of the invention as claimed, numerous modifications may of course be made.

I claim:

1. A cigarette holder comprising a base, a ring secured at right angles to said base, a mounting adjustably mounted on said ring, and spring actuated means in said mounting, a cigarette. clamping member having a bottom and wall portions, one wall portion having a retaining lip, said clamping member being formed to conform to the shape of a cigarette, a clamping plate pivotally secured at one end to an adjacent wall portion of said member and terminating at a fastening hook releasably engaging said lip.

2. A device of the class described comprising a base, a ring secured to said base, a cylindrical mounting adjustably mounted on said ring and adapted to be adjusted laterally on said ring, spring actuated means in said mounting, said means including a pin grooved to said ring, and a spring adapted to exert a tension on said pin for holding said mounting adjustable on said ring.

A cigarette holder comprising a U-shaped member, a clamping plate secured to said member, a cylindrical mounting carried by said U- shaped member, and said mounting having vents to prevent said holder from becoming overheated, a support for said holder, and additional means including a spring pressed plunger for adjustably attaching said mounting on said support.

4. A cigarette holder comprising a base, a ring secured to said base, a cylindrical mounting adjustably mounted on said ring, and said mounting having vents to prevent said holder from becoming overheated, a U-shaped clamping member secured to said mounting, and having a bottom and wall portions, one wall portion having a retaining lip, and a clamping plate hingedly secured to the rear portion of said member and having a hood detachably engageable with a portion or said U -shaped member.
