Description

May 10, 1932. MacBETH 1,857,283
ASH AND FIRE PROOF CIGAR AND CIGARETTE HOLDER Filed May 13, 1931 Patented May 10, 1932 ALEXANDER MACBETH, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND ASH AND FIRE PROOF GIG-AR AND CIGARETTE HOLDER Application filed May 13,
This invention relates to ash and fire proof cigar and cigarette holders and the primary object thereof is to provide a holder of this type which is of improved construction and which embodies novel means for enabling the holder to be easily and quickly attached to and removed from the cigar or cigarette.
The invention further aims to simplify and economize in the construction of the holder so as to enable same to be marketed at a low figure.
The invention has further and other objects which will be later set forth and manifested in the course of the following description.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a top plan View of the invention;
Figure 2 is a section on line 2-2 of F igure 1;
Figure 3 is a section on line 3-3 of Figure 1;
Figure 4 is a front end elevation."
In proceeding in accordance with the present invention a cylindrical body 1 is provided which is preferably of somewhat tapered formation and which is formed of any suitable fire proof foraminous or mesh material, such as fine screen wire. The outer end of the body has a metal ring 2 applied thereto which latter has an inturned flange 3, to which is secured a similar foraminou-s or mesh disk I 4. The ring 2 is provided with opposed projgctions 5 that have teats 6 struck inwardly therefrom and which engage in the body 1 so as to secure the end member in position without the use of solder or other extraneous fastening means. The inner end of the body is engaged over a preferably fiber sleeve 7 and is clamped thereto by a fiber ring 8 secured in position by one or more pins 9. In order to strengthen and reinforce the inner end of the body a second fiber ring 10 is engaged over the sleeve 7 and abuts the ring 8 and is secured to the sleeve by one or more pins 11. As shown particularly in Figures 2 and 3 the sleeve 7 is formed witha substantially semi-circular slot 12 in which a jaw or clamping member 13 is movable, the member 13 having a finger engaging end 14 which 1931. Serial No. 536,986.
projectsbeyond the sleeve and is pivoted to the latter by means of a pin 15.
The clampingmember or aw 13 is formed so as to frictionally fit in its slot and engage against the ring 10 so as to somewhat cam thereagainst as shown in In operatlon, the cigar Figure 1. after being lighted is placed within the body 1 until its lighted end is adjacent to the end member 4, whereupon the member 13 is moved inwardlyso as to clamp the cigar in position, thus maintaining the holder on the end of the cigar. It will thus be apparent that ashes or the like will be held by and within the body 1 and that even though the ciga r be placed in contact with any ignitable material or the like, same is prevented from having contact therewith. It will also be apparent that the holder can be made in various sizes, thus for example, in the instance of s ome cigars or clgarettes the holder will be made of a size smaller than that in the instance of large or average size cigars.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A cigar or cigarette holder composed of a foraminous cylindrical bo dy, a ring disposed over the front end of the body and having an inwardly extending flange, a foraminous disk engaged with the inner face of the flange, said ring having inwardly extending projections with teats struck i nwardly therefrom to engagein the body, a sleeve projecting within the rear end of the body, a ring .en-
In testimony whereof name to this specification. ALEXAND I have signed my ER MACBETI-I.
