This invention relates to vests and constitutes an improved construction for a like invention set forth in my prior Patent No. 2,099,054, granted- November 16,1931, H r One of the main objects .of the invention're sides in a vest orlike garment which maybe adjusted to various sizes by. the wearer, Such feature will be found most usefulinthe constructure of mens dress vests, for the owner fof such garment may have only occasional use for the same and during the life of the vest, the; owner may adjust the same to meet varying 7 changes in his body measurements. Such a vest is capable of long use by the owner with assurance of a perfect fit at all times. I Another'feature of the invention isto provide anacljustable vestthat permits a merchant carrying a large variety of patterns without unduly burdening his stock as would necessarily result if the same number of patterns or styles of vests were carried in there'latively wide range of lengths necessary to provide acomplete stock of lengths within the range.

Such adjustment may be readily made by the wearer for the buttons it are within easy reach, although concealed from view by the lapels l2. By concealing the adjustable fastening means ofthe neck strap ll, the unsightly appearance of the same is. eliminated and which mightotherwise show even though the wearer may haveon adinner or formal evening coat.

In Figure 5 I have illustrated a modified form of collar strap adjusting means wherein a buckle 24 is secured to the body section II beneath the lapel l2 to receive the end of a fabric neck strap 25.

In Figure 6 a further modified form of strap adjustment is shown wherein a male snap fastener member 26 may be stitched to the body i section II instead of a button and engaged by any one of a plurality of female snap fastener members 21 stitched to the underside of each end of a collar strap 28.

From the foregoing description read in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, it will be apparent that the present invention provides a new and improved vest or like garment which is so constructed that it may be adjusted to various sizes and lengths and that such result may be accomplished in a single, inexpensive, and easy manner.

In Figure 7 of the drawing, there is shown a set of three collar straps 29, 30, and 3|, of progressively different predetermined lengths and the same being respectively termed long, regular, and short sizes. Each of these collar straps is provided with but a single buttonhole 32 adjacent each end instead of a plurality of predeterminedly spaced button holes l8 present in the adjustable collar strap I1. In this embodiment of the'invention, a vest consisting of the body sections lll l similar to that shown in Figures 1 to 3 may be sold to a buyer with a set of diiferent size collar straps 29, 30, and 3|. The set of collar straps are interchangeable to suit the length of the wearer and may be substituted one for the other as the body measurements of a wearer may vary. The button holes 32 of the individual straps are engaged with the buttons IS in the same manner as the selected buttonhole l8 of the strap l1.

While I have illustrated the straps 29, 3|], and 3| as being provided with buttonholes, the same may be detachably connected to the body sections H--l l in the same manner as illustrated in Figure 6, wherein snap fasteners may be substituted for button and buttonholes.

Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is:-

1. A vest comprising two separate body sections, a lapel carried by each of said body sections, each of said lapels overlying a portion of its respective body section, fastening means provided at the outer top corner edge of each lapel to secure the same to its associated body section, a collar strap having its ends disposed beneath the top portions of the lapels on said body sections, and releasable fastening means carried beneath each lapel and concealed thereby and securing the ends of said collar strap and the respective body sections together.

2. A vest comprising two separate body sections, a lapel carried by each of said body, sections, each of said lapels overlying a portionof its respective body section, fastening means provided at the outertop corner edge of each lapel to secure the same to its respective body section and providing a tunnel entrance to the space between said lapel and its associated body section,

a button carried by each of said body sections beneath the lapel carried thereby adjacent the top thereof, and a collar strap having its ends inserted through the respective tunnel entrances of the body sections so as to lie beneath the lapels, said collar strap having button openings near each end thereof for engagement with the aforementioned buttons carried by the body sections.

4. A vest comprising two separate body sections, a lapel carried by each of said body sections, each of said lapels overlying a portion of its respective body section, fastening means securing the outer top corner edge of each lapel to its associated body section, a buckle fixedly secured to each body section and underlying its associated lapel adjacent the top thereof, and a collar strap having its ends disposed beneath the respective lapels and secured to said body sections by the buckles carried thereby.

5. A vest comprising two separate body sections, a lapel carried by each of said body sections, each of said lapels overlying a portion of its respective body section, fastening means provided at the outer top corner edge of each lapel to secure the same to its associated body section, a collar strap having its respective ends disposed beneath the lapels, and separable fastener elements carried by said body sections beneath the lapels for securing the ends of said strap to said body sections.

6. A vest comprising two separate body sections, a lapel carried by each of said body sections, each of said lapels overlying a portion of its respective body section, a button carried by each of said body sections beneath its associated lapel, fastening means securing the outer top corner edge of each lapel to its associated body section, a removable collar strap of a predetermined length having a single opening adjacent each of its ends and receiving the buttons carried beneath the lapels.

7. A vest comprising two separate body sections, a lapel carried by each of said body sections, each of said lapels overlying a portion of its respective body section, fastening means provided at the outer top corner edge of each lapel to secure the same to its associated body section, a collar strap having its ends disposed beneath the top portions of the lapels on said body sections, one of the ends of said collar strap being fastened to one of said body sections, and releasable adjustable fastening means carried beneath the lapel of the other body section for adjustably securing the other end of said collar strap thereto.
