Description

J. WRATSCHKO GARTER GRIP Filed Sept. 9, 1955 INVENTOR Joseph watscnkm ATTORNEY Patented Jan. 5, 1937 UNITED STTES GARTER GRIP Conn.
Application September 9, 1935, Serial No. 39,683
14 Claims.
This invention relates to garters, and more particularly to a detachable grip for attaching a garter to the upper edge of a hose or stocking.
One object of this invention is to provide a garter grip of the above nature which is exceptionally thin so that it will lie fiat against the wearers leg without any noticeable forward protuberance when used in connection with tight-fitting garments.
A further object is to provide a grip of the above nature comprising a rigid base pad and a flexible button member slidable with respect to said pad and detachable therefrom.
A further object is to provide a garter grip of the above nature which will be simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, easy to ,assemble and manipulate, compact, ornamental in appearance, and very efilcient and durable in use.
With these and other objects in view, there have been illustrated on the accompanying drawing, two forms in which the invention may be conveniently embodied in practice.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 represents a front view of a garter grip embodying the invention. v Fig. 2 is a side view of the same.
Fig. 3 is a detailed perspective view of the flexible sliding button member on a slightly enlarge scale. i r
Fig. 4 is a front view of a modified form of rigid base pad.
Referring now to the drawing in which like reference numerals denote corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral It] indicates a flat base pad I preferably made of compressed fibre, but which may be made of any other suitable rigid material, such as metal or celluloid, within the scope of the invention. The pad I0, as best shown in Fig. 1, is substantially pear-shaped, having an upper tapered section II and a lower smaller tapered section l2.
The upper section II of the pad I0 is provided with a T-shaped slot I3,having an upper horizontal portion 13w which is adapted to receive the lower end of a depending looped garter strap 14. The depending strap l4 may be attached at its upper end to a ladys garment, not shown, such as a corset or girdle, or if desired, may be attached to a mans circular garter band, not shown.
The lower longitudinal leg [3b of the T-shaped slot I3 is cut away at its upper end to provide a pair of opposed inclined arcuate sections I5 to facilitate the insertion of a horizontal ovalshaped upper head l6, forming an integral part. of a sliding button member ll, preferably constructed of soft rubber but which maybe rigid if desired. The button member I! has a flat base It which is adapted to lie behind the rigid pad Ill. The upper head it is secured to said base I8 by a thin vertical neck l9, which is adapted to slide within the vertical leg 43b of the T- shaped slot l3, the thin shape of said neck assists in preventing the button member from twisting relative to the rigid base pad I!) in cooperation with the lower wedge block 22.
The upper end of the vertical leg I312 is preferably provided with a pair of opposed inwardly extending nibs Illa which serve to removably lock the upper head It in its lowermost position.
The lower end of the button member I! is pro vided with a tapered wedge-shaped neck projecting therefrom, said neck being secured to an integral relatively flat circular head 2 l. The side walls 22 of the neck 20 converge downwardly, and said neck 20 is adapted to slidably engage in an oval slot 23, the opposite lower edges 24 of which are inclined to correspond with the converging side walls 22 of said neck, and are adapted to receive said neck 20 in the manner of a wedge to clamp the stocking 25 therebetween, said stocking being shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2.
Operation When it is desired to assemble the garter grip, the upper oval head it of the button member M will be slipped through the T-shaped slot l3 of the base pad it] from the rear, and the neck l9 will be slidably and friotionally engaged in the vertical leg i311. The base pad it will next be assembled to the looped strap M which will close up the horizontal slot i311 sufiieiently to prevent the head it from thereafter moving upwardly out of the vertical leg I31).
In order to attach the device to a hose or stocking, the button member. will be pushed to its uppermost position, and the top edge of the stocking placed between the base pad l0 and the lower part of the button member with the circular head 2! thereof in alinement with the upper large end of the oval slot 23. The button head 2! will then be forced forwardly through the oval slot 23 carrying a portion of the stocking with it, as shown in Fig. 2. The button member l'l will finally be slid downwardly, as far as it will go, causing the stocking to be securely clamped between the wedge-shaped walls 22 of the neck 20 and the opposed converging edges 24 of the oval slot 23 in locked position.
In Fig. 4 is shown a modified form of device which is similar in all respects to the first form of the invention, with the exception that the upper edge of the T-shaped slot I3 instead of being straight, is provided with an arcuate recess 26 above the lower arcuate sections I5. Also, in place of the oval slot 23 of the first form, a keyhole shaped slot 26a is provided having opposed lower edges 261) which diverge slightly downwardly so that when the wedge neck 20 is passed down beyond the upper ends of said lower edges 26b, said neck will be held in locked position. The recess 26 is provided topermit the insertion in the T-shaped slot I3 of button heads 21, shown in dotted lines, made of metal or other non-compressible material.
While there have been disclosed in this specification two forms in which the invention may be embodied, it is to be understood that these forms are shown for the purpose of illustration only, and that the invention is not to be limited to the specific disclosures but maybe modified and embodied in various other forms without departing from its spirit. In short, the invention includes all the modifications and embodiments coming within the scope of the following claims.
