The present invention relates to what I designate as a cigarette parking tray. The tray is adapted to be individual for sanitary purposes. From close observation and study of cigarette smokers in all walks of life, I have found that they were and are always asking themselves the question, Where will I park this cigarette?- The question arises when in company, at the card table, at the piano, at the lunch counter, and in innumerable other places which could be mentioned, the though being in mind not to damage or burn anything and also refrain from leaving the forgotten cigarette which continues to burn and thus leaves its mark on furniture and the like and in numerous cases, if entirely forgotten causes many conflagrations.
The main object of the invention is to overcome the above in a very inexpensive manner yet efiicient, effective and thoroughly reliable.
With the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawings:-
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a combination ash tray and parking tray.
Figure 2 is a top plan View thereof.
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a detail side elevation of a parking tray.
Figure 5 is an elevation of the parking post.
35 Figure 6 is a fragmentary perspective view showing a portion of the ash tray with its socket and the lower end of the post.
Figure 7 is a perspective view of the post.
Figure 8 is a detail sectional view of a modified form of the parking tray where no ash tray is to be used.
Referring to the drawings in detail it will be seen that the numeral 5 denotes an ash tray the rim of which is formed with a socket 6 to receive the lower end of a post 1, the upper end of which is terminated in an angular extension 8 the upper terminal of which is provided with a notch 9. A shield I0 is mounted on the upper end of the post below the juncture of its extension 8 and is of semi-circular construction with the curved edge disposed upwardly. Numeral l I denotes the parking tray which is formed with an opening l2 to receive the terminal of the extension 8 and to rest in the notch 9 with the tray disposed generally in a vertical plane and in the center of this tray is an upwardly inclined pin I4 over which the unlighted end of a cigarette is placed as indicated in dotted lines in Figure 3. It will be seen 5 that this parking tray may be easily disengaged from and engaged with the parking post and may be, when disengaged, carried from place to place. The tray is adapted to be an individual article for sanitary purposes. When it is not contem- 10 plated to use an ash tray and parking post then the pin Ma should be disposed vertically from the bottom of the tray as indicated in Figure 8. With a cigarette disposed as shown in Figure 3 in dotted lines and as shown in Figure 8 in full lines it is well known that the same will not burn very long and even if it burns to the very end no damage could be caused.
It is thought that the construction, utility and advantages of this invention will now be quite apparent to those skilled in this art without a more detailed description thereof.
The present embodiment of the invention has been described in considerable detail merely for the purposes of exemplification since in actual 5 practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description.
It will be apparent that changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and ar- 0 rangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.
What is claimed is:--
LA cigarette parking device of the class described comprising in combination, a tray, an upstanding pin in the tray for receiving the unlighted end of the cigarette, an ash tray, a post rising from the edge of the ash tray, and means where- 0 by the parking tray may be engaged on said post to be disposed in a substantially upright plane.
2. A cigarette parking device of the class described comprising in combination, a tray, an upstanding pin in the tray for receiving the unlighted end of the cigarette, an ash tray, a post rising from the edge of the ash tray, and means whereby the parking tray may be engaged on said post to be disposed in a substantially upright plane, said post having a shield on the upper end thereof behind the parking tray.
