Filed April 11, 1952 INVENTOR 771M56/l-5R0 ww AORNEY Patented May 2, 1933 UNITED STATES JAMES H. BROWN, OF PITTSFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS MATCH BOX HOLDER Application filed April 11,
My present invention relates to an provement in match box holders, in WhlCh the match box may be inserted in the holder and firmly held in a fixed position.
Another object of the invention is to provide a match box holder in which the match box is held in a fixed position for striking matches on the box, and also to prevent the contents from being thrown or jarred from the match box.
Other features of the invention and the details of construction will appear as the specification proceeds in the accompanying drawing. I have illustrated the invention as embodied in a practical form but I Would have it understood that changes and modifications may be made without departure from the true spirit and scope of the invention.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a part sectional elevation side View.
Figure 2 is a part sectional end View.
Figure 3 is a plan View.
Figure 4 is a front View of the keeper.
Figure 5 is a side view of the keeper.
The device shown consists of a cylindrical shaped base 1 with a rolled edge 2, which base may be used for holding burnt matches and ashes. The base is turned up in the center as indicated by the numeral 3, forming a cylindrical support flush with the top of the base. An upright U shaped support 4, for holding a match box 10, is brazed or sweated to the said cylindrical support in a fixed and firm manner. On the interior, at the bottom of the U shaped upright, I have provided an inverted U shaped support which is attached to the upright U shaped support by sweating or similar means. There is a small clearance between the upright U shaped support and the inverted U support to provide means for a match box to set over the inverted U shaped support.
A keeper 6 is slidably attached to the upright U shaped support by means of knobbed pin 8, and operates by means of a bayonet slot 5 provided in the upright U shaped support. The top of the keeper 6 is formed into a hook-shaped configuration adapted to fit over the top of a match box. The bayonet 1932. Serial No. 604,421.
slot 5 is so designed that when the knobbed pin 8 is brought as far upward as possible, the hooked portion 7 of the keeper will pass over the top of the match box 10.
The operation of the device is as follows:
The match box 10 is placed between the upright U shaped support 4 and over the inverted U shaped support 9. The keeper is brought to the highest position by means of the knobbed pin 8 operating in the bayonet slot 5, and the hooked portion of the keeper 6 placed over the top of the match box 10. The keeper is then brought to the lowest position by means of the bayonet slot 5 and clamped over the match box 10, thereby holding the match box in a firmly fixed position.
What I claim is A match box holder comprising a base, an upright U shaped support attached to the base, said upright U shaped support provided with a bayonet slot, an inverted U shaped support attached to the interior of the upright U shaped support, said supports adapted to hold a match box receptacle, a keeper with the top formed into a hook shape configuration and slidably attached to the upright U shaped support by means of a knobbed pin and adapted to fit over the edge of the match box receptacle and operated by means of said knobbed pin engaging in said bayonet slot to clamp the match box receptacle in a fixed position.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature.
JAMES H. BROWN.
