LEATHER WRIST WATCH STRAP Filed. Nov. 10, 1934 INVENTOR.
ATTORNEYS.
Patented; Mar. 31, 1936 (m re!) STA/TBS LEATHER WRIST WATCH STRAP Albert H. Sauer, Jr., Cincinnati, Ohio Application November 10, 1934, Serial No. 752,494
' 6 Claims. My invention relates to leather wrist watch straps.
The object of myjnvention is to produce a neat and attractive wrist watch strap that is light, 5 compact, durable, economical and agreeable to the touch, and one which due to its peculiar construction is narrow and will withstand perspiration more than the usual wider strap.
My invention consists in providing a leather l wrist watch strap with a substantially continuous under or inner surface and an outer "or upper surface having longitudinal ribs or ridges thereon. My invention also consists in the details 'of construction and in the combination, location If and arrangement of parts, and also in the method of making the strap. 3
In, the drawing: Figure 1 is a top or plan view of a wrist watch and strap attached thereto showing one embodi- 20 ment of my invention;
, Fig. 2 is an isometric view of the same showing the method of assembling the parts;
Fig. 3 is a cross-section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1; I
Fig. 4 is a cross-section of the rib or ridge section showing the method of assembling;
Fig. 5 is a cross-section of a modification showing a strap having the sections provided with two ribs or ridges instead of three as shown in Figs. 30 1 and 2; Fig. 6 is a cross-section showing another modi flcation of the rib or ridge portions of the strap; Fig. '7 is still another modification of the rib or ridge portions of the strap; and
Fig. 8 is a cross-section showing the method ofassembling. a
In the embodimentof my invention as illustrated each end portion of the strap attached to the wrist watch I comprises a folded overlapping 40 member 2 having bifurcated edges 3 stitched transversely therethrough at 4 forming eye 5' through which it is attached to the wrist watchby pinbar 6.
The cooperating detachable 45 comprise member. I ving buckle 8. jeaid member is overlapped and its folded end is provided with notch 9 to receive buckle tongue 8' and per,- mit free movement thereof. Its bifurcated ends Ill are each preferably beveled and the buckle is 60 held in position by stitches II.
or keeper I2 is preferably provided to receive the cooperating perforated end 13 of. the strap. Said cooperating end l3 of the strap'is folded ends of the stra upon itself with the folds thereof secured to one.
55 another and provided with perforations M to re- A suitable 100D ceive the buckle tongue 8', Its bifurcated ends l5 are preferably beveled or tapered to a thin edge.
Each intermediate section It of the .strap'comprises a portion having continuous under sur-' 5 face I! and longitudinally ribbed outer surface 18 as shown in all of the views. These intermediate sections are preferably formed as shown in Fig. 3 and each comprises a strip of leather is rolled inwardly at each longitudinal edge around a fiber cord 20 to which it is cemented. Another strip of leather 2| is rolled-partially around fiber cordiz and cemented thereon as shown in Fig.
4. It is then placed in position as shown in Fig. 3 and cemented between the outer ribs. 15 When thus formed, sai intermediate sections l6 are placed in the p tion shown in Fig. 2 and their respective ends cemented within the bifurcated ends and secured by stitches 23 as shown in Fig. 1.
My invention is capable of considerable modication, as, for instance, the intermediate sections of the strap may consist of the construction" shown in'Fig. 5 in which only two ribs are formed and a narrower strap may be thus produced. 25 Likewise, the construction may be varied as illustrated in Fig. 6, showing the leather enclosing two fiber cords and the edges of the leather overlapping on the under side with stitchesextending therethrough and through the upper or outer 80 surface. Another modification shown in'Figs. 7 and 8 comprises an elongated strip of leather cutaway inthe center on one side to form enlarged edges or ribs 25 as shown in Fig. 8. Said ribs are rolled inwardly with a leather roll 26 85 placed between ribs 25 as shown in Fig. 7. These ribs or rolls are cemented in that position.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patents is:
1. In a wrist watch strapof the class described 40 the comb tion of a strap tongue formed of a single strip of leather folded atits longitudinal center upon itself and having said folds secured to one another with the ends of the strip of leather free and gaping, and a section of ornamental leather strap having one end received between the free, gaping ends of the tongue and the other end adapted to be connected with a wrist watch.
2. In a wrist watch strap of the class described the combination of a strap tongue formed of a single strip of leather folded at its longitudinal cente'r upon itself and having said folds secured to one another with theends of the strip of leather free and gaping, a section of ornamental leather strap having one end received between the attaching section and free, gaping ends of the tongue and the other end adapted to be connected with a wrist watch. and means extending through the free, gaping ends of the tongue and the connecting strap piece for securing the parts to one another.
3. In a leather wrist watch strap of the class described the combination of an inner watchattaching section, tion formed of a single piece of leather folded on itself and said folds secured to one another with the ends thereof free, and a central connecting section having one end secured to the watch-attaching section and the other end received between the free ends of the outer section.
4. In a leather wrist watch strap of the class described the combination of an inner watchattaching section, an outer tongue or buckle section formed of a single piece of leather folded on itself and said folds secured to one another with the ends thereof free, a central connecting section having one end secured to the watchthe other end received between the free ends of the outer section, and means extending through the free ends of said 'outer section and the enclosed end of the central section for uniting said sections to one another. a 5. A leather wrist watch strap of the class described comprising a pair of sections, each section having an inner piece folded on itself and an outer tongue or buckle sec-v watch attaching piece folded on itself to stitched to provide a pin bar loop with its ends free and gaping, each section having an outer piece, said outer piece on one section forming the buckle attaching piece and said outer piece on the other section forming the tongue, each of said outer pieces being formed from a single piece of material folded upon itself with the ends free and gaping, a connecting piece between said inner and outer pieces of each section and having its ends disposedbetween the free gaping ends of said inner and outer pieces, and means for connecting the said pieces of each section to one another.
6. A leather wrist watch strap of the class described comprising a pair of sections, one of said sections having an inner watch attaching piece folded on itself and stitched to provide a pin bar loop, an outer buckle attaching piece formed of a single piece of material folded on itself, a connecting piece between said inner and outer pieces,
the other section of the strap having an inner provide a pin bar loop, a central piece having one end attached to the inner watch attaching piece, and
a tongue at the outer end of said last mentioned,
central piece and having its ends free and gaping to receive said end of said second mentioned central section.
