GARMENT SUPPORT.

This invention relates to wearing apparel for weinen for concealing from view the various shoulder straps, and more particularly to a means for preventing the slipping of the various shoulder straps of the respective Luidergarments from the shoulders of the wearer.

rlhe invention has for its principal object to provide an article of manufacture in the form of a structure capable of arrangement into a tubular body and adapted for opening on one longitudinal edge to receive and conceal the various shoulder straps of the garnents worn, concealing the shoulderl straps of the various garments from view, and at the same time holding the same Itogether substantially as a. unit, and preventing the shoulder straps from slipping.

Another object is to provide a structure of the above type which may be employed as a tubular casing, enclosing the various shoulder straps, and which may also be employed as a garment shoulder strap and a tubular casing for receiving the shoulder straps of the other garments Worn. i

lVith the above mentioned and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claims hereto appended.; it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion, size and minor details of construction within the scope of the claims may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

The invention consists primarily in a strip of material, preferably formed with parallel side edges and adapted when open to form a relatively flat body, there being provided fastening means on the :free edges of the strip for interengagement when the body is folded preferably on a center line to provide an open ended tubular fabric structure.

To more clearly comprehend the invention, reference is directed to the accompanying` d rawi ngs, wherein- Fig. l is a front elevation of the upper portion of an undergarment provided with our improvement, and illustrating` the shoulder straps of another undergarment received within the shoulder straps of the principal garment. l

Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2 with the invention, in what may be termed, closed or shoulder strap concealing position.

Fig. 4; is a perspective view, illustrating the end of our invention, in this form the invention constituting a shoulder strap for one garment, there being illustrated' shoulder straps for other garments extending thereinto and concealed thereby.

Fig. 5 is a cross sectional view of the invention in open position, illustrating the shoulder straps of other garments laid thereon.

Fig. G is a view similar to Fig. 5, with the invention in closed position, and the shoulder straps of the other garments concealed therein. Throughout the various views of the drawings similar reference characters designate corresponding parts.

In the invention illustrated, we have shown the upper portion of an undergarment, and for purposes of description, the same may be termed a slip To the upper portion of the slip l are securedv the opposite ends of duplicate lengths of the present invention, in the embodiment illustrated the same constituting shoulder straps 2. rlhe shoulder straps being duplicates, a description of one 1s thought to suflice. Each shoulder strap comprises an elongated body 3, of any suitable fabric material, such as ribbon, silk, tape or the like, and the same consists of a body portion land a flap portion .5. The strap is adapted to be folded longitudinally on a median line, preferably dividing the strap longitudinally into substantially duplicate halves. lThroughout its length, the strip is provided on one face with pairs of clasps, snaps or other suitable fastening devices 5, one member' of each pair lying opposite each other adjacent the longitudinal side edges of the strip, as in Fig. 5, and adapted to interfit and detachably interengage on the folding of the strip on the median line to providev a tubular structure, as in Fig. G.

As illustrated in Figs. 1 and et, each shoulder strap is secured at corresponding ends of similar half portions at 6 to the upper portion of the garment, and within the same, when the strap is in open or flat position, as in Fig. 5, is adapted to be positioned the shoulder strap or straps 7 of other nndergarments, such as a vest 8 or the like.

In the embodiment illustrated in `Fig. l, our invention is illustrated as being attached to the outer of the undergarmenls, Whereas in Fig. 4, the embodiment is illust-rated as being attached to the innermost of the undergarments, such as the vest 8, and in this embodiment the body 4 of the strap may extend a short distance beyond the end of the flap portion 5 of` the strap and said body extension is attached to the garment in any suitable manner. This is optional with the manufactureror individual, as either may cut the body transversely on the hemstitched portion 7 and thereafter remove the flap afforded by the cut portion or permit the same to remain. ln the embodiment, Fig. 4, We have illustrated fragmentary upper portions of other undergarments Worn by the vvearer, they being respectively, the corselctte vorV brassire 9 and the slip, illustrated in Fig. l, and designated by the numeral l.' Each of these undergari'z'ients has extended from its upper edge a shoulder strap, indicated respectively .by the numerals 10 and 1l, and they being of vvell known structure, further description thereof is not thought necessary.

The present invention is arranged With its open edge disposed inwardly over the body of the wearer in such manner that the open edges of the shoulder straps face each other.

lVith the garments donned and shoulder straps open, the wearer lays the shoulder straps flat on the shoulder, as illustrated in Fig. 5. Vhen in such position, the straps l() and ll of the respective garn'ients l and 9 are laid therein, as in Fig. 5, in relatively flat superimposed relation, and when the proper adjustment has been obtained, the liap 5 of the strap is folded thereover to the position (Fig. G) with the clasps or snaps in interengaging relation, thus concealing the straps l0 and ll within the tubular body and holding' the same together substantially as a unit. T his structure gives a neat appearance to the shoulder straps, in that While three garments are Worn, only the outer enclosing tubular body, which may or may not constitute a shoulder strap, is exposed.

It will be readily understood that the present invention may be employed merely as a tubular strap concealing body, With its ends free and not secured to any undergarment, or with ends fastened to hold in place but not to act as a support, or that the same may be, as illustrated anddescribed, employed both as a shoulder strap concealing device and as a: shoulder strap for supporting one of the undergarments.

It Will be readily understood that this invention may be sol-d as an article of manufacture in lineal lengt-hs and the same be cut transversely for attachment to garments to constitute either shoulder straps or tubular body for concealing the shoulder straps of other undergarments. ln each instance, the strap is adapted for folding on a median line to form a body and a flap, and there lming?,l provided clasps, snaps or other attaching devices on one surface of the body and flap for uniting the freel edge of the body with the flap to fold and form a tubular structure. i

As an article of manufacture, a lingerie strap concealing device comprising an elongated body longitudinally folded to provide integralbody and llap portions having free longitudinal edges, and means for detachably securing the free edges of the body and flap portions together at spaced points throughout their length.

As an article of manufacture, a lingerie strap concealing device comprising an elongated body longitudinally folded to provide integral body and flap portions having free longitudinal edges, the ends of one portion extending a short distance beyond the ends of the other portion, and means for detachably securing the free edges of the body and flap portions together at spaced points throughout their length.

3. As an article of manufacture, a lingerie strap concealing device comprising an elongated substantially flat fabric body adapted for creasing longitudinally, to. provide opposing body and lflap portions, pairs of quickly detachable interengaging means carried on the corresponding faces of the body and flap portions with the members of each pairlying adjacent opposite side edges of the respective portions to detachably secure he edges of the opposing body and flap portions together vvhen said body is creased.

l. An article of the class described, comprising a garment, a. shoulder strap comprising opposing fold portions united along one longitudinal side edge, and means for detachably uniting said fold portions along the other longitudinal side edge, whereby a tubular body open at its ends is provided the opposite ends of one of said fold portions being secured to the garment.

5. An article of the class described, comprising a garment, a shoulder strap secured thereto and4 comprising a body folded on a longitudinal line to provide opposing superimposed portions, means on the inner faces of the respective portions for interengagement to detachably unite the fold portions along one edge.

6. An article of the class described, comprising a garment, a. shoulder strap comprising a body portion and a flap portion extending longitudinally of the body portion, each portion having a free longitudinal edge, said body and Hap portion attached at one lon itudinal side edge, said flap portion olda le over the body portion to overlie the same, means for securing the ends of the body portion to the garment, and means for detachably securing the body and Hap portions together along their free edges.

7. As an article of manufacture, a lingerie strap concealing device comprising an elongated body longitudinally folded to provide integral body and flap portions, each having a free longitudinal edge, the ends of the body portion extending beyond the corresponding ends of the iap portion, and means for detachably securing the free edges of the body and flap portions together at spaced points throughout their length.
