This invention relates in general to a cooking stove construction and has more particular reference to a sliding drawer which forms a part thereof. This application is a division of my application for United States Letters Patent Serial No. 196,197, filed June 3, 1927, for Cooking stoves.

A principal object of the present invention is the provision of improved means for raising and lowering the broiler pan in an oven drawer.

A further important object of the invention is the provision, in connection with a broiler drawer having means for raising and lowering the broiler pan, of sight openings so arranged that the pan in its several adjusted positions may be readily observed without opening the drawer to the end that need for change of location may be readily determined.

Numerous other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent as it is better understood from the following description, which, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, discloses a preferred embodiment thereof.

For the purpose of illustrating my invention I have shown on the drawing a kitchen stove or range in which the irwention is or may be embodied. This stove comprises the usual open burner portion I, upper baking oven 2, and lower broiler assembly 3, mounted together in the usual manner upon a supporting base 4, carried by legs 5. The broiler assembly includes a burner 6, mounted at the top of the broiler compartment and just beneath the baking oven, and adapted in the present embodiment of the invention to provide the desired heat by the burning of gas on other fluid fuel. A drawer l is provided to move in and out of the broiler compartment. The drawer of the drawing comprises a bottom wall II, a front wall I2 and side walls I3 and I4. The side walls I3 and I4 are connected at their rear by a cross member I5. The front wall I2 is of appropriate shape and dimension to close the front of the broiler compartment to replacethe 'usual broiler door.

Two rods or shafts I6 and I? are arranged upon the bottom I I and extend from the front to back of the drawer and in bearing cleats or members I8 appropriately positioned. The shaft I6 is arranged wholly within the drawer and the shaft I1 extends from near the back of the drawer to and through the front wall I2 and at the front finger or like piece 2| adapted to be engaged in notches 22 provided in a quadrant 23 to secure the parts in their various adjusted positions.

, Each shaft I6 and I1 is provided near its front and rear ends with an arm 24 fixed for rotation or swinging movement with the shafts. The two arms 24 at the front are connected by a link 25 and similar connection is or may be provided between the two arms 24 at the rear. Thus constructed and'arranged it will be apparent that upon movement of the upwardly extending arm I 9 of the shaft I I the four arms 24 will rock in unison with each other and in unison also with the swinging movement of the arm I9.

The two arms 24 at the rear are provided with forwardly extending pins 26 arranged through slots 2'! formed in the rear cross-support 28. Similarly the two arms 24 at the front are connected to a cross-front support 29 The broiler pan, generally indicated at 3|, is provided with the usual side flanges 32 and front and rear flanges 33, which rear and front flanges are adapted to rest upon the back cross-support 28 and the front cross-support 29. The front and back supports preferably have dimension approximately that of the distances between the inner faces of the side walls I3 and I4 and swinging movement of the arms 24 is accompanied therefore by vertical movement of the rear and front cross-supports without appreciable horizontal shifting This movement in turn imparts like movement to the broiler pan carried by it and the broiler pan is lifted and lowered directly from the flame. This movement is confined substantially to a vertical plane. Adjacent the wall I3 upwardly extending cleats 34 are arranged upon the bottom II to limit the downward movement of the arms 24.

In order that the broiling may be observed and timely adjustment made, two sight openings are provided at the front of the stove and preferably just above the horizontal level of the top of the quadrant 23. Each of these sight openings comprises a transparent inset 35 preferably of glass arranged in openings provided in the front wall of the drawer and held in place by a suitable holding frame 36.

Adjustable stop members 4| are pivoted at 42 at the tops and near the rear of the side walls 13. When these stops are arranged as shown in Fig. 1, to extend rearwardly, their shoulders 43 are in position to engage behind fixed stops 44 appropriately arranged within the chamber in which the door slides. The door may be removed by pulling nearly to stop engaging position and then reachingin and swinging the adjustable stops forwardly on their pivots until they are arranged in horizontal position, in which position they may pass beneath the fixed stops 44.

It is thought that the invention and many of its attendant advantages will be understood from the foregoing description, and it will be apparent that many changes may be made in the form, construction and arrangement of the parts without departing from the spirit and scope of the: invention or sacrificing all of its material advantages, the form hereinbefore described being merely a preferred embodiment thereof.

I claim:

1. In a stove, means forming a compartment open at one end, a drawer movable therein having sight apertures at the front, a broiler pan for the drawer, means operable from the front thereof for adjusting the vertical elevation of the pan in the drawer, a fixed stop atthe side of the compartment, and an adjustable stop member at the rear of the drawer to engagethe fixed stop for limiting the outward movement of the drawer and movable out of position to engage the fixed stop for removing the drawer.

2. In a stove, means forming a compartment open at one end, a drawer movable therein having a sight apertureat the front, a pan fitting loosely in the drawer, means operable from the front thereof for adjusting the vertical elevation of the pan in the drawer, said means comprising 7 a source of heat at the top of the compartment,

a tray adjustably supported within said compartment, means for adjusting the position of the tray comprising slotted cross pieces extending under opposite edges of the tray, arms with projections engageable in the slots'of the cross pieces, shafts secured to the arms, means for connecting corresponding arms of the shafts for moving the latter in unison, and a crank extension on one of the shafts for rotating the shafts together to raise and lower the tray.

4. The combination of means forming a cooking compartment, a tray movable therein, means for adjusting the position of the tray comprising slotted cross-pieces extending under opposite edges of the tray, arms with projections slidable in the slots of the cross-pieces, shafts secured to the arms and rotatable in unison in the same direction; and means extending outside of the compartment for operating the shafts.
