  • This invention relates to window fasteners and its general object is to provide fasteners that are capable of securing either or both sashes of a window completely closed, or partially open to allow for ventilation without fear of the sashes being moved from the outside, as the fasteners are substantially concealed and arranged so that difiiculty will be experienced in tampering therewith by a person exteriorly of the window when the latter is open, and of course when the window is closed, access can only be had to the fastening means from the inside.

2 Claims.
This invention relates to window fasteners and its general object is to provide fasteners that are capable of securing either or both sashes of a window completely closed, or partially open to allow for ventilation without fear of the sashes being moved from the outside, as the fasteners are substantially concealed and arranged so that difiiculty will be experienced in tampering therewith by a person exteriorly of the window when the latter is open, and of course when the window is closed, access can only be had to the fastening means from the inside.
Another object of the invention is to provide a window/fastener that can be easily installed on all windows that include sliding sashes, can be easily manipulated, is inexpensive to manufacture, simple in construction and extremely eflicient in operation and service.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:
Figure l is a view illustrating the use of my fastener with the upper and lower sashes of a window.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken approximately on line 22 of Figure 1, looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary detail view of the bolt member and its attaching means.
Figure 4 is a detail view of the bolt bearing member.
Figure 5 is a similar view of the bolt.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the letter A indicates a window frame having the usual The attaching means of the bolt member of my fastener includes a bearing sleeve 4 which has formed thereon oppositely disposed transversely curved ears 5 that are provided with openings to receive securing means for fas- 5 tening the attaching means to one of the side rails of the sashes, it being understood that when the fastener is used for the upper sash, the attaching means is fixed to the right hand side rail and when used for the lower sash, the 10 attaching means is fixed to the left hand rail.
Mounted for rotation in the bearing sleeve is one of the arms 6 of the bolt 1 of my fastener, and the bolt also includes an arm 8 and these arms are disposed on the ends of the bolt and 15 arranged at right angles with respect to each other, so that the arm 8 is disposed to be received in any one of the openings 2 of its keeper strip. The bolts are provided with spring means for holding them under tension and for that 20 purpose I provide a spring 9 that has one of its ends received in an eye I 0 that is secured to the bolt while its opposite end is received in an eye II that is secured to the window frame as best shown in Figure 3 of the drawing. 25
From the above description and disclosure of the drawing, it will be obvious that I have provided a fastener that will secure either or both sashes of a window in closed or partially open position, to prevent the windows from being 30 opened from the outer side thereof, or moved from their position held by the fasteners which will allow for the sashes to be opened to and held in various positions, due to the relatively long keeper strips I.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combi- 40 nation and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. In a window fastener including a keeper 45 strip having a plurality of equi-distantly arranged openings therein, a bearing sleeve, transversely curved ears extending from opposite sides of the bearing sleeve to receive attaching means, a bolt, an arm extending at an angle 50 from one end of said bolt and mounted in the bearing sleeve for pivotal movement, an arm extending at an angle from the opposite end of said bolt and at right angles with respect to the first mentioned arm to be received in any one of the openings and spring means for said bolt.
2. In a window fastener including a keeper strip adapted to be secured to the inner side of a window frame and provided with a plurality of equi-distantly arranged openings, a bearing sleeve, apertured ears formed on said sleeve to receive means for attaching the sleeve to a sash of the window, a bolt, an arm at one 10 end of said bolt and mounted in the bearing sleeve for pivotal movement, an arm at the opposite end of said bolt and disposed with respect to the other arm to be received in any one of the openings for holding the sash in closed or partially open position, an eye on the bolt, and a coil spring having one end secured in the eye and its opposite end adapted to be secured to the sash.
