' Be it knownthat I,,Josnrn Sosa, a citizen of the United- States, and residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door-Aligning Depally doors of motor'vehicles, and the object of the invention is to provide a device of the class specified which is composed of two parts or units, one of which is secured to the door frame and the other of which is secured to and carried by the door, and said parts being adapted tocooperate with each other to pro erly aline and support the door in the door rame or body of a vehicle as the case may be; a further obj'ectbeing' to provide a device of the class and for the purpose specified which is so constructed as to release or partially'open the door when unlocked or unlatched thus facilitating the free and easy manipulation of the door 1n the operation of opening the same; and with these and other objects in view the inventlon consists 1n a device of the class specified which is s mple in construction, efiicient in use and which s constructed as hereinafter descrlbed and claimed; I
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, 1n whlch the separate parts ofmy improvement are desig-v nated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Fig. 1 is a horizontal sectional view of a part of a door and door frame or body, and showing one form of my improved aligning device mounted in connection with said door and door frame or body;

In Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing I'have shown at 10 a part of a door framework,"or the body of a motor vehicle, as the case may be, and at 11 a, part of a.;d 0or mounted in shown said-framework. My improved aligning de.-, vice is preferably composed of separate parts or units 12 and 13, the unit 12 .being mounted in the frameworklO, while the unit 13 is mounted in connection with the door 11 and ismovable therewith.
The unit 12 of my device comprisesa cas ing 14 open at one side as shown at 15 and at the front as shown at 16, and mounted in the casing is a spring socket member 17 which forms a closure for the front opening 16 of said casing. I
The socket member 17, in the form of construction shown, in. Figs. 1' and 2, is composed of a strip of metal fashioned to form angular end portions '18 which fit within the top and bottom portions ofthe casing 14,
and said strip is fashioned centrally to form an inwardly directed semi-circular loop 19 at the opposite sides of which are outwardly and inwardly curved loop members 20. The unit 12 is adapted to be countersunk in the framework 10 and is secured in position by screws or similar attaching devices 21 passed through the casing 14 and into said framework and two of these screws serve to aid in holding the spring socket member 17 in proper position, as will be apparent on a consideration of Fig. 2 of the drawing.

form with the general shape of the socket member 17, and which isalso provided with arc-shaped depressions 31 to form seats for the balls 27 I In Figs. 5 and 6 of the drawingI have shown another modification in which the socket member 17 is fashioned to form two oppositely disposed cylindrical bearings 32 in which anti-fricton rollers 33 are adapted to be mounted. The bearings 32 are formed, in the construction shown, by bending predetermined parts of the strip of spring metal from which the socket member 17 is formed inwardly as shown at 34 and bending other parts thereof outwardly as shown at 35 in F gs, 5 and 6 of the drawing thus exposing the central portion of. the rollers 33 within the socket of the member 17. j My improved device, as hereinbefore stated, is adapted to functionprimarily to properly aline a door in a door framework, or to keep the door in proper alinement at all times and to prevent the sagging or misplacement thereof, and further byreason of the resilv ient' qualities of the socket member employed I facilitate the opening of the door when unlocked or unlatched, the device functioning to move the door outwardly or to partially open the same; andfurther it will be apparent that my improved device will also operate to support the door in the framework, at all times, under tension, thus pre-, venting the rattling of said door in the framework, especially when my improved device .is employed in connection with the doors and body of motor cars.
In Fig. 7 I have illustrated in full and dotted lines the anti-friction roller 26, in two positions from either of which it may enter the socket'member 17 to aline the door in the frame and with the roller 26 in the position shown in full lines in said figure, the
door will be raised into the socket member 17 .while with the position of said roller shown in the dotted lines, the door will be lowered into said socket member.
slight modification which consists in providing a socket member adapted to be mounted in connection with the door frame of a door to raise the door in said frame for.
aligning purposes, it being understood that in most cases the outer or free side portion eeann limited to the specific shape and construction of the socket of the unit 12 as shown in Figs. 1 to 6 inclusive, nor am I limited to the specific construction of the unit 13 herein shown and described, and various changes in and.m0d1ficat1ons of the construction herein shown and described may be made, within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of my in-- 'v'ention or sacrificing its advantages.
Havin' fully described my invention, what I c aim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
- 1. A device of theclass described for use in connection with a swinging member inount- T ed in a stationary support, said device being composed of separate units, one of which is 'mounted in connection with the stationary support and the other of which is mounted in connection with the swinging member, one of' said units being provided with a socket and the other unit with anti-friction means adapted to enter said socket.
2. A device of the class described for use in connection .with a swinging member mountedin a stationary support, said device being composed of separate units, one-of which is mounted in connection with the stationary.
support and the other of which is mounted in connection with the swinging member, one of said units comprising a casing, a resilient socket member mounted in said casing and exposed therethrough and the other of said units being provided with an antifriction member adapted to enter .said resilient socket member.
3. A device of the class described for use in connection with a swinging member mountsilient socket member, and said socket member being provided with means for guiding the anti-friction member into the socket of said socket member.

A device of the class described for use in connection with a swinging member mounted in a stationary support, said device being composed of separate units, one of said units being mounted in connection with the stationary support and comprising a socket member, the other of said units being mounted in connect-ion with the swinging member and being provided With an anti-friction roller, and tensional means in said socket member in connection with which said antifriction roller is adapted to operate in the connection with a door and door frame, said device comprising an anti-friction roller mounted in connection with the door and a socket member mounted in the door frame and into Which said antifriction roller is adapted to pass, and resilient means in said socket member adapted to operate in connection with said anti-friction roller to hold the door in the door frame under tensionand to aid in releasing the door from the door frame in the operation of opening the same.
