Description

J. J. LEVIN v TOY March 19, 1935..
Filed Oct. 9, 1933 JA CK J. LEVIN the'escape of air from the cylinder. 7
16, which will add very much to the value of the device in amusing the child and arresting its attention.
Very pleasing sound effects may also be produced with a device of this. character by having one or more fingers 17 extending from the drum 6, which fingers are made to strike one or more prongs suitably attached to the device when the drum rotates.
The perforations in the tube 11 may be of fixed size or else adjustable by suitable means such as the needle device 18 shown in Fig. 3.
In order to fasten this device to a chair, table, crib, etc., I have provided the straps 19.- It will be seen that the bores 2 in the top of the casing serve as a guide for the string, and thetop of: the casing may be raised soas to form the projections 20 to provide seats for the toysand to strengthen the top at the perforations.
The present invention is not limited to the specific' details set forth' in the foregoing V examples which should be construed as illustrative andnot by way of limitation, and in view of the numerous modifications whichmay be effected therein without departing from the spirit and'scope of this invention, it is desired that only such limitations be imposed as are indicated in the appended claims. 7
I claim as my invention: v
1. In a play device, a casing, a drum within said casing fastened on a rotatable axle, a flexible connection having its inner end secured to said drum and passing through a guiding aperture in the top of said casing, a toy fastened to the outer end of said flexible connection, a cylinder closedat one end; a' spring havinga part in fixed position', a piston within said cylinder connected to said spring, another flexible connection extending from said piston to the said axle and meansfor' controlling the escape of air from said cylinder when the piston moves toward the closed end of said cylinder. 7 w y 2. The combination claimed inclaim 1, having a vent in the cylinder as the means for controlling 3. The combination claimed in'claim 1, having an adjustable vent in the cylinder as the means for controlling the escape of air from the cylinden 4. The combination claimed inclaim 1, having a plurality of vents of differentsizein the cylinder as the means for controlling the escape of air from the cylinder, the smallest vent being positioned nearest the closed end of the cylinder.
5.'The combination claimed in claim 1, having a vent in the cylinder as the means for controlling the escape of air from the cylinder together with a sound producing device for operation bytheing, means comprising a flexible connection pass ..ing through a'guiding aperture in said casing for transmitting the movement of said toy to said piston and means for controlling the escape of air from said cylinder when the piston moves toward the'closed end-of said cylinder.

Ina play device, a casing, a cylinder closed at one end, a spring having a part in fixed position; a piston within said cylinder connected to said: spring, a toy movable to and from said casin'g', meanscomprising a flexible connection passing through a guiding aperture in said casing for-transmitting the movementof said toy to said piston, means for controlling .the escape of air from saidcylinder .when'the piston moves toward said cylinder and means for producing a distinc tive sound when the piston returnsatoward the closed end of the cylinder- I 8. Inaplaydevice, a casing,a toy movableto and from said casing, a spring, meanscomprising a flexible connection aperture in said casing for transmitting the movement of said'toy to said springv and means-for controlling thereturn of said spring to its normal position. andthereby controlling the'return ofsaid toyto'saidcasing.
